    Re-ground cams

Due to oil blockage on TR1 XV 1000 a cam and rocker was damaged...
Going thru my milk crate I dug out another set that have been re-ground..
They have etched on what appears 764 or 76L or 164 or 16L...
hard to read ok... even with magnifyer..

Verniers indicate 1mm has been ground off sides and base...
Sooo the lift is 1mm more and duration the same...

I rang all Cam Grinders AU in Google but no-one recognised the numbers..

Does anyone have any ideas about this style of grind..

The bike is a regular weekend air cooled older style low revs thingy...
short stroke motor say 6.5 rpm max if ever...
I heard that just grinding off the base is 'no good'...

Or in anyone has knowledge or experience of what works with these
XV1000 motors re: cams, then yeah...
I'd like to wake it up a bit...
Everything is easy, when you know how...

It won't be the same lift mate because the rocker ratio is not 1:1 on those motors. If you know what the ratio is you can work out absolute lift easily enough. If ya don't, you can install it timed to standard marks and measure the lift with a dial gauge... and while you're at it the duration. Do the same with a stock cam in the other cylinder to compare. Make sure you check piston-to-valve clearance though and allow 040" inlet, 060" exhaust. Those motors have a bucket load of clearance stock, so it should be fine. As for reducing the base circle diameter being " no good".......... horse poo.

Thanks Gav, I understand the ratio u mention...
and yeah I could not understand the 'no good' reasoning myself...

Yes they are low lift and short duration in standard trim...
I know I can put to cam doctor, but pay for what.. ???

I may as well use and try...

But yes I will do measurements as you say, good idea, I have a spare motor.

Am thinking to put 750 heads on the 1000 motor, since the std comp is 8.5 / 1
I was thinking with this 'mystery cam' and more comp I can wake the thing up...
I have good exhausts and they have twin 40mm carbs so it's all there...

Just for fun anyway... pleased to hear grinding base and sides is ok...
Thanks ur time and info ok..
