Rebuild help
Hi i'm trying to rebuild my old 81 gsx400f, but due to very limited knowledge i have hit a few brick walls after stripping most of it down.
I have 2 almost complete bikes and am trying to build one, i think 1 runs but dead battery and hasnt started for ages, i'm going for a ground up rebuild and was hoping for some advice. Mainly i wanted to know if anyone knows of a good mechanic who would strip down the engine a bit and have a look at it for me to see if its still in good condition, tune it up and see if it can be started. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic on old suzuki 4s?
If that's ok then i will try to start putting it back together but im sure i will run into some rewiring issues...the wiring on this bike seems pretty complex and i want to make it quite simple.. so any auto elecs that would be knowledgeable on the old suzuki?
Also the best way to clean/degrease alll the different parts to the bike? start scrubbing?
Any other major things i should check? the disc brakes look ok but probably need new pads.. anyone know a good source?
I'm putting a different seat on so i also need some welding done on the frame.. and then strip back and powder coat, does anyone have any good sources for this too? Im around Perth, really want to get one of these bikes going and would appreciate any help! I have the workshop manual which is pretty detailed, but some of it is out of my league and i dont have access to all the tools... plus i thought if i want to ride it i should get someone with some experience onto it to suss out the major things.
i still have to purchase things like new lights, gauges, brake handle, master cylinder, + more but hope to get it running and the major things all good before doing more cosmetic work..
Cheers!
