I was thinking of using the appropriate Devcon (probably the aluminium one, I think) to fill the scratches in mine a while ago, but then didn't bother, because it's only going to get more scratched now.
I reckon it'd work pretty well. The only downside is I think it's fairly expensive to buy, and the smallest size pack would be enough to do 50+ engine cover jobs.

edit: Oh, like Halo said, you'd have to do something to cover it afterwards, because I doubt the colour would be a perfect match. I was going to powdercoat.

already got aluminium devcon, so i'll use that i spose. Just use it the same way as you would use filler?

Oh and devcon should be right to powdercoat over shouldnt it? My cousin works at a powdercoating place so he'll do it

That was my other problem. From memory, aluminium Devcon was only good to ~170C, I think, and I wasn't sure what sort of temps the p/c oven would get up to. Ask your cousin, but I reckon it'd be worth a shot regardless.

Ill check it out, but my guess is that the devcon would be ok at those temps, but not under any stress. Ie it would be no good for engine internals, but should be ok to powdercoat. Ill speak to him about it anyway
