    Replacement Frames?

Trying to reduce the size of my topic starting posts from novels so that people can actually be bothered reading.

    TL: DR
When getting a new frame, what happens with the VIN number?

My frame is bent and using findapart.com i have several quotes for a new frame, curious as to how I would go about registering my bike with a different VIN - and of course if the pre-loved (yet untainted) frame is a reparable write off or a salvage part how will this affect my registration issues?

Oh and does anyone think a mechanic would have a problem with me sourcing my own parts then paying his labor to re-assemble my bike?

I realise this might not be the best forum to ask in as the registration is for NSW. But I assume someone here has previously re-registered a bike with a frame that came from another bike?

What kind of questions should I be asking those selling me the frame? (Already asking things like, what condition is it in, how many kms were on the bike this frame was on, but realised that I should ask about the VIN history or something as well?)

Firstly is the bike written off? I believed that due to recent changes in NSW that getting a written off bike re-registered was extremely difficult

if it was over here in wa i would of thought you a relicencing an unlicenced bike because the vin is the identity not the engine

just have the vin checked out to make sure it can be relicenced with your licencing department

get a mechanic or yourself to swap it over

i could be wrong but that is how i understand it
you have different system over there so ask your dot technical division and they should comfirm whats required

    hope this helps

Thanks guys, seems pretty simple, the trick is finding a cheap frame with a good history apparently. Will keep thread updated with how this ends up incase anyone needs future reference.

Done this with a ZX10. the new frame was $1200. The VIN area is blank for you stamp the origional number on the new frame and transfer the plates. Took two days to strip and rebuild.
