ripped open my zx2r today

ok so i took apart my zx2r today to have a look what might be causing the lack of power... found the fuel filter has a few bits of gunk in it, so i cleaned that out by reverse flow of fuel, i took the air box off and found out my air filter itself is pretty much wet, and rotten.. so im going to buy a new one tomorrow. so when i put the bike back together if i dont see an increase in performance ill have the carbies looked at.
what do you guys think about all this?

Is ya air filter oily or wet? If its wet thats ya problem and ya need to find out where the water is coming from.

And dont be a tight arse.... Buy a new fuel filter

hrmmmm sounds like a well maintained bike.......

While it's in bits I would be checking the oil filter and brakefluid conidtion, because I bet they will be in the same state.

Depending on the style or air filter there should be a light covering of oil on it.

If its a paper element then no.

Green = coolant.

There should be two brake reverviours, one on the lever, and on near the footpeg.

yeah ok so thats coolant, i got the air filter out and theres 4 holes in the air box going down, are they the air intakes into the engine for the cylinders? its like a spongey air filter and yeah its meant to have some oil on it but somethings telling me theres too much oil. besides that part of the spongey stuff is falling off and its got some rips in it so im thinking its lived its last day

If the air filter is deteriorating then yes, replace it before your carbs start sucking it into the engine. The 4 rubber pipes leading from the airbox are the air inlets for the carbies.

Chances are you will need to order in an air filter for it, will take ~1 week to come in (when I replaced one on a zxr250 I used to own a few months back nobody had one in stock in Perth). You'll find the replacement air filter will come pre-oiled too, they are meant to have a light application of oil on them for increased filtration.

If the fuel filter was blocked then replace it, drain the tank and check for rust (if the tank is rusted then you will need to get a treatment solution for it). Blowing fuel back through the filter will only clear a blockage for a short period of time until the crud flows back through, in other words you're not addressing the actual cause of the problem.

Change the plugs whilst you have the tank off and perhaps even look at removing the carbs and giving them a thorough clean.

Correction.
Seek assistance and edumacation to clean the carbs, filters, oils, lubes, etc.
You dont want to mess it up more through lack of knowledge.
