    scalloping front tyre

what causes it, low pressures? I'm usually pretty diligent with tyre pressures, but the Nelli's got a scallopped front, I cant afford to replace for a month or so, should i follow the bike makers recommendations ( Benelli has 2 different recommendations, depending if your reading the owners manual or the workshop one!!) and can It wear evenly again if you keep it at the correct pressure, mines hardly worn ,tread depth wise?

the tyre is doing some of the work the suspension should be doing by the sounds.

I have only seen this on a 16" tyre, not a 17 tho.

Tends to happen to bikes with a centre line in the tread pattern Michlens at about 1 third of tyre life to go and the super soft proddy race rubber. I always put it down to running a heavier bike on tyres that were designed with a supersport in mind so I don't use Michlens avoid tyres with centre lines be realistic about the riding you do i.e. do you really need the stickest stuff on the shelf or is it really just bragging for when your mates stick their thumb nail into the tyre.

The modern "sports" tyres are pretty good these days and unless you are soley a surburban hero (opps 90% of PSB :p ) you need to ride for about half and hour to an hour to get to any serious riding so tyres that are up to temp but the first corner are a bit pointless.
Obiously look after your tyre preasures however I'm not so sure about blindly following manufacturers recommendations as this usually conecides with whoever was prepared to give them a luck deal on tyres that week.

Battleaxe fronts (BT-020) have done it to me on four bikes, different pressures etc. Apparently an artefact of the tread pattern in that case.

Yeah I tend to run 014F 020R ,unless I can get a 014 for the rear but due to its size that doesn't happen very often.

there the original Dunlop d207RR from memory,it will have to stay that way for a couple of months at least as cant afford a replacement right now, Will be getting a road tyre next as opposed to a supersoft sport one as i dont do enough hard riding to justify them ATM. bummer though

Yep, replaced two lots of BT020 fronts before they were worn out due to scalloping issues.
Dunno why they're still making them.

Where there are small section(s) in the tyre taken off with the rest of the tyre showing even wear. Also called cupping or if you lock a brake a flat spot.

Could be a number of factors from to steering head bearings. Usually it is suspension setting.

Tyre pressure is the first place to look.. set pressure to tyre manufacture setting.. not bike setting..
check head stock for excessive free play..
check suspension.. if bike weight is being pushed forward onto the wheel/tyre and not the suspension then this will help more scalloping..
other than that it is the nature of the beast.. being thread pattern design.. most of the criss-cross and or fine thread patterns will scallop very easily..
only one I found that didn't was a metzler lazer 33

The camber of the road is always a factor too! That and under inflation.. I would run the front tyre at 38psi...

80 KG's probably 85 with gear on, The tornado is already front heavy due to the engine being quite forward due to the radiator being under the seat, factory specifies 36PSI F and 36 to 34 at the rear (depending on what manual you read ;-) )
