Shinto Tyres, anyone else had issues?

    Hi all,

After a trip to Perth on the weekend, I got to a mates place and noticed a cut/tear across the tread of my rear tyre. It almost looks as if someone has cut across the tread with a knife, although obviously isnt the case as it Certanly wasn't like it when I left Bunbury.

After rising around Perth a little bit and them home again it seems like it has spread across the tread a little bit although not too much, however another spot on the tyre is bow starting to do the same thing.

I already have the bike booked in for a new tyre, and given its a shinko on there at the moment I really don't mind having to pay for a decent tyre, just concerned that this has occurred after only 3,000km on the bike.

Any body else seen this kind of problem before?

when you get the tyre removed have a good look at the area with the cut you most likley find it is simply that a cut.
From something on the road the tyre encountered.
The fact that all you got was a cut to the tread area actually stands to testament of the tyres quality.
Because the tyre was able to withstand the foreign object.
Cast you mind back a few years what brought the concord down ? a bit of shit on the runway
    thanks steve

Yes, but ill be up there on the bike, and riding from Bunbury to Perth with a spare tyre strapped off the back would not be a fun ride

Just got the call to say my new tyre has arrived so all will be good when its changed tomorow, thanks for the replies and hope the new tyre doesnt end up suffering the same fate.

Yeh same problem on my mates hyo, its a common issue for the factory hyo tyres.

Get some decent rubber on there, safety first.

Ill hold back on my hyodung bashing.

I ran Shinko 005's a couple of years back on my CBR1100XX BB and they were and OK tyre, never had any real moments with them but even though I got a similar ~12k out of the front as the Michelin Pilot Powers, the rear only lasted ~6500km compared to a Pilot Road 2's 10k and the ~$70 a set cheaper price wasn't worth it, especially as the Michi's were a better handling tyre and better cold grip

Went in and got a Pirelli Angel fitted today, havnt had a chance to really see how it goes yet as I have done mostly highway riding thisarvo but so far it seems solid, will see how it goes in the corners on Sunday.

Bike mech said that the old tyre "should" have been fine to keep riding on, as the cut wasn't too deap, but still would rather have a perfect tyre than an "ok" one.

    Cheers mate glad you like.

Yeah Trevor sorted it out for me quick smart (only went in late Tuesday arvo to tell him about it and had it down for me on Friday, can't complain with service like that). I will definantly post up how the tyre goes, keen to see how it goes through the twisties once it has some heat in it.
