slip on DIY install for 08 ZX6R

    Hi there,

I'm thinking about buying a Yoshimura RS-5 slip on for my ZX6R and installing it myself.

Just wondering if it's worth the effort or if I should just pay someone to install it and spend my time elsewhere. I'm not usually hands on but I gotta start some time.

    Any thoughts appreciated!

    Doesn't a slip on just bolt-on?..

If the exhaust was side mounted it would probably be easier, but mine's under the pillion. The instructions/photos on Yoshi's website has the rear end looking bare...

If you need to ask, then maybe let someone else do it? I put my R-77 on myself and it was very easy, but as you say, mine's a side mount, not undertail. I've done all my mods to my bike including the intake flap mod which was a bit fiddly and also spliced in gear indicator and other bits and pieces, and you certainly do learn lots about your bike. Plus you get the satisfaction of saying, "I fitted that!". A mate and a couple of stubbies usually make things easier too

It can be daunting pulling the tail apart for the first time but it is easier than it looks. You can make it easier by taking photos as you go and placing the bolts in labelled bags to save confusion when you put it back together. If you haven't already found the workshop manual you can download it by clicking here

looking at there website the instructions are clear and easy to follow. you only have to take the tail off to get to the mounting points. As said, it may look hard but it really is not. do it with a mate if your not to sure about doing it by yourself as they may remember something you forget when putting it back together

and then you'll know how to take it off when you have to repack it
