It was never fitted with a steering damper from factory as it doesn't need one when the suspension is functioning correctly and setup to suit rider weight...
Steer dampers mask other faults...
They are only required to some extent on race/sports bike due to steering geometry that is designed to allow the bike to turn fast...

As rich said . A 250 like yours shouldnt need one
check suspension and steering wheel alignment and Tyrese
by the time you have checked them you will have fixed the problem.
Atlas Performance, dyna pumps, " your name goes here"
the suspension has been set up by marty, mainly trying to avoid me getting flicked off due to the bloody great bumps in the road up here.
brand new tyres on it along with the susesion setup. nothing wrong with the bike just the conditions i ride in up here.

What exactly is the bike doing that you think it needs a dampener?
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.
Buy my stuff, everything now half price - http://www.perthstreetbikes.com/foru...woofer-144818/
Headshakes over bumps in the road but only at greater than normal speeds, so to say if i stuck to the speed limit i would be fine. Otherwise i tend to poo myself when it happens at speeds greater that 120.
Susp. ension sag / set up etc is one thing but when was the last time it was serviced ie oil replaced / correct weight fork oil etc?
Being a 91 , if it has not been done the fork/shock oil the suspension innards will be a very brown stinky mess by now and won't be working all that well.
I've ridden your area a few times pretty quick on an RZ500 (THE tankslapper from HELL) - you should not be having too many issues on yours dude..
Honkey nuts make for brown undies though!?!?!?![]()

Yeah it'll be the aging (18+ years) suspension, especially on the cbr250's. Most cbr250's i've seen, the rear shocks are munted beyond repair, very soft and aren't serviceable. The fronts can be rebuilt easily enough and added preload firms them up a bit. But other than that, not much you can do unfortunately.

yea like i said i had the suspension looked at by marty and i have added further preload since then. so i dont think its the suspension that is the problem. oh and mattstazx10r i think you should go down the road between chidlow and mt helena mmmm them some good headshakes.

That road has been like that since it was built...
I used to ride it heaps...
yea its starting to get pretty bad. they fixed the mt helena end but the rest is still really bad.
Yeah know the road but haven't ridden it for over 15yrs. That one and the backroad to Wundowie were favourites but on the Yam , ride over the slighest bump/ridge and the bastard was trying to tear your arms off!!!
A RR is much more sedate by comparison trust me (Just ask Jamanthi - he has a couple of RD/RZ 5's I believe)
Just offering up suggestion coz as mentioned , dampers can be a 'bandaid' solution to another issue.
How are the headstem bearings? If they are ok is the swingarm bearings flogged? You prob already checked but never know.
Hope it helps![]()

Last time suspension was serviced fork oil/rear shock, how well is your bike setup for you? Headstem bearings last checked? All this will have a far more postive effect on your bike and will be cheaper than a high end steering damper. Steering dampers are only really a band aid solution to a bike with less than ideal setup.
Id say more likely the bike is being used outside it's comfortzone. Light bike like a 250 on a road that's undulated and constantly cornering, that's gunna be very hard to setup suspension for. I heard that same comment on my 450exc so i spent a fortune on suspension work, only to find that a steering damper was a perfect fix. I wanted to retain that nimble left right flick in enduro's and still have the steadiness at speed on the straights. Suspension sorted for the slow stuff and damper met my requirements for speed.
I assume this is the case here too.
"insert witty comment here"

But your damper now slows your steering down and makes you exert more effort to turn in the tight stuff...
The road he is talking about is straight, but it is rather bumpy...
See if you can get the forks rebuilt with 'Golds' valves etc, it can be okay 'tuning' what you have, but as with my ZX7R and my 110kg I need the innards replaced to suit.
I only fitted a dampener after I also altered the rear end as well, raised the seat height and basically turned a very sedate steering geometery into a twitchy nervous thing, so the dampener was fitted after all the steering setup was done, just to slow her down a bit..
‘90% useless’ and ‘10% distorted'
will look into the front end a bit more and see if i can find any gremlins hinding somewhere.

Slow down?

It's okay on my VTR up to speeds where I have to think about moving myself down out of the wind, but I suppose that's because it's somewhat never than a CBR250 is likely to be.
