    Suspension or Tyres???

Just a quick one for those in the know.

04 R6 (the last one's before USD forks) tucking on corners. IE higher than normal pressure on inside bar just after starting the turn. Let go of the bars running in a straight line and it tracks very well. No shaking & no hint of tank slappage about to occur. Suspension feels fine, progressive feel under braking and no wollowing etc. If anything, maybe just a touch on the hard side. Just on turn in, it feels like it wants to fall into the corner.

The tyres are pretty much shagged and the front is squared both left and right of centre. Could it simply be that its an old tyre causing the issue or possibly something else that im missing?

    Cheers.

Id say your tyres by the sounds of it. Have you changed any of the suspension settings at all? Or are they still at the standard settings?

AFAIK all settings are standard. Not my ride and not sure of its entire history but the current owner hasn't had anything changed.

By "tucking", you mean the bike leans over quickly, right? Just want to clarify, because I've only ever heard "tucking" used to describe the front tyre sliding out during a turn.

Anyway, like FG and Rich have said, it sounds like tyres from your description. If they're not too badly worn or old, is it possible the rider is just used to a different tyre profile, and these are steeper? (i.e. Going from Pilot Powers, which have a really round profile, to Bridgestone 002Rs, which have much steeper sides on them)

Also...having a 180 on the rear will cause the bike to turn in quicker.

Thanks for the info people. Please excuse my terminology fopar.

The tyres are BT014s. They are quite old and past due for replacement. I've riden other R6's with the same tyres that didnt feel like this but the tyre's certainly weren't as stuffed and were'nt squared on the edges.

What your finding is the edge of the flat spot on the tyre..... a worn tyre, has a flat spot through the middle, which can make noticeable changes when you corner. As you tip in you go from a large contact patch within the flat spot, over a the edge of the flat-spot (minimal contact), into the normal side profile of the tyre. Going over the edge/ridge makes it feel like the bike suddenly tips in a lot quicker.

Possibly the worst thing is that at this point of tipping over, is when you start to really load up the suspension into the corner, and due to the edge being there, you have minimal contact patch and minimal grip. This can lead to a lot of exciting times, but will pretty much guarantee you won't be able to go through the same corner consistently for the whole day......

What blackFZR said. if the tyre is squared off you won't get a nice smooth tip in. You're changing angles quickly. Why do you think new tyres are nice and curved not in a hexagon shape...

Plus like others have said. 014s are shit.
