Whats this bit do? (CBR1000RR)

Hey, got a 05 cbr1000rr and I've noticed this little clip thing and the wires coming out are a little bare - just wanna know what it is and if its likely to be an issue at all?

Looks like its attached to vacuum lines and a one way t valve thing-o so my guess is stuff for you horn

It looks like the solenoid that controls the flapper in the airbox.

It also looks like someone has spliced something into it at some time.

Get some paint on Electrical tape

The thing next to it looks like the vacuum reservoir, you can remove the system if you like, Google the 'flapper mod' or search 1000rr.net for some guides, tips and results from people who've done it.

Yeah, I did that mod on my 04 Blade. There was some conjecture about whether the inlet flap was to improve low down power, or quieten induction noise for ADR. I couldn't tell the difference. BTW the mod was to unlpug and cap one of the vacuum lines.

Yeah, the simplest way is to disconnect and cap the vac line, on my 1000rr (2010) doing so made the flaps stay shut on a return spring, I removed the whole lot, made some room for my HID ballasts
I didint really notice a huge difference in power, just sounded way more awesome at the intake

It is one of the sensors for you central computer and should have a rubber case around it. check the continuity of the wires then wrap up them with some insulating tape.
