Whole bottle carb cleaner in 1 tank ?

    Hey all .

I have a mate whose got an old 92 mdle zx7r .with about 112,000 kms on it , got it cheap $1200 but needs a bit of work . It's got bout 4 decent flat spots in the rev range , given the state of the bike it's pretty fair to say the carbs need a good clean .

A guy said tip a whole bottle of inj/carb cleaner in it ?
Now I've used octane boost in my 06 sv1000 every nown then . But usually work out what it treats . Usually 1 bottle to 65 lt of fuel . So I just work out based on the size of the sv tank 17lt I think and add the ratio on the bottle .

But given the bikes carbed not injected and theirs bout 20 diff fuel/carb/inj cleaners on the market . Here's the question ?

A- should he use a whole bottle regardless of what it states
B- whats the best product to clean carbes
C- can he do any serious damage by using a whole bottle probably 3-3.5x what it states the ratio should be usually 1 bottle to 65lt .

Cheers for any help !! Slipn

When I was having carby problems on my zx7, I used half a bottle and it was fine.. definately did its job and there wasn't a noticeable difference while riding on the treated tank... can't see more doing any harm, it just wont burn and should get shot out with the exhaust gasses I thought....

I did this and it did help but the cleaner also loosened the scale inside the tank - this then blocked the fuel filter . I would grab at least 2 extra f-filters and / or treat the tank seperately .

    Cheers scarecrow !!
Good to know u have experience with the bike as well and it did do somthin ! What cleaner brand did u use?

I deft notice the difference when I've added octane boost in my sv . Although they reckon use the bare minimum octane rating u can . Due to the fact the more octane the slower the fuel burns ?? But I deft notice if I use bp ultimate it feels slot more responsive . Witch puzzles me cause I'd thought if higher octane burns slower then performance would b also slower ?? Any who if any body knows anything bout this would be intrestin 2.
