This is why you buy quality riding gear...

The brother got out at Collie over the weekend to throw some 'tard tires on his dirt bike and try the some supermoto.

    Loved it.

Only problem was when he powered through a bitumen turn, and forgot it became un-surfaced half way through. Needless to say he lost the back end.

A fast slide, but no tumbles, he held the clutch in and hit the kill switch while sliding, also realised his right hand was wedged under the handle bar. So quick though, he realised, but couldnt react.

Thought nothing of it, just a tad sore, and a scratched bike, and off he went again.

....... Then he got home and saw this while unpacking his race bag.

That little slide made it through a hard plastic knuckle protector, and no less than 3 layers of leather... Luckily, still leaving one layer intact.

He puts forwards his thanks to Alpinestars for that one.

Dont skimp on your gear people. This could have easily been a lot missing finger in a lesser pair of gloves...

a friend of mine came off after hitting a roo last year on one of those freshly resurfaced country roads, you know the ones with the super coarse bluemetal? his delrin knee slider was worn all the way through and made it through the dainese heavy leather cup to have a little munch on his knee which still required a little surgury but at least it was still there.

Look at my gloves when I hit the hard edge of the car door....

    Quality gear saved my hand.
The universe likes speed. Don't delay. Don't second guess. Don't doubt. When the opportunity is there, when the impulse is there, when the intuitive nudge from within is there, act.

On a similar note, I was wearing leather gloves with no armour in them when a car hit me, it crushed my hand between the handlebar and a car panel. I broke a finger and I always get gloves with armour now (cf/metal/kevlar). I either wear high quality stuff or squid it.

That said, to those who can't afford the expensive stuff (most likely young people new to riding who haven't accrued a closet full of gear) the cheaper stuff is still far better than nothing.
Is such a thing even possible?
