    Wobbly, unstable bike

Ever since I put the new (second-hand) forks in, the bike has felt uneven; riding along normal roads the front wheel feels as if its wobbling around, on Kalamunda Rd today on a ride I had to fight with the bars as they seemed to want to go their own way, under braking the wheel wobble is a lot worse and under hard braking will result in a crash. Darkfibre suggested it might be uneven oil levels in the forks, what do you guys think?

    PS Tyre pressures are fine.

    Cheers

I'd start with the simple things... like fork oil level.

    q
why did you replace the forks in the first place? front end impact damage? if so, maybe get the wheel checked out as well?
    stuff

Were the 2nd hand forks any straighter than the previous forks?

Did ya fit em ya self ?
Did ya put it together correctly?
All thw spacers in the right spots?
Do the forks have any oil in them?
Had ya crashed ya bike badly before fitted the 2nd hand forks?
How long is a piece of string?
Does it feel like it wants to fall over when you turn one but wants to stand up when you turn the other?
    Can you afford a mechanic?

One of my forks has leaked a fair bit of oil, it can be abit wobbly, but I haven´t had to fight the bars really. Just hard to keep a line when taking a curve.

Yours sounds more serious. Check the oil though, It is completely natural to change the oil and seals on a second hand forks just for good measure. Then put everything back in place carefully .

First check everything is still torqued, yoke pinch bolts, axle pinch bolts etc. Then I'd be checking stantions and front axle for straightness. Get the front end up (block+tackle with an overhead beam is easy) and check the front doesn't have excessive play at either the wheel or head bearings (grab forks and push/pull to see if they rock, then have someone hold the bars and try and shake the wheel side to side)

Even if your oil was shit, uneven and both forks had different settings I wouldn't expect it to feel as bad as that.

Sounds as though the sppedo might be out and then check the head light fluid as previously suggested by Taint.

    If not more than likely

Might be time to sell the bike and handball the problem to some other unsuspecting punter.
