(to you) Is a rear stand an investment?

Hey guys, in a bit of a pickle. I really want to get involved with my 250, as in try and do a lot of the service and what-have-you myself. Just to prove to myself that I am in fact able to use my hands and to save $$.
Has anyone here been able to live with out a rear stand? Or is it high up on the list of bits to buy?

I tried changing the oil on my 250, and I thought that it's times like this where a rear stand would come in handy... But with that, I haven no idea how often I'll use it. It's one thing saying "I want to work on my bike" and another actually doing it

    Cheers,

It makes oiling the chain a 10 second exercise.

like fibre said it's worth it for oiling your chain alone let alone helping with other tasks.

Mine hangs on the wall in the garage and gets very little use, in saying that I am stoked I have it there for when I DO want it.

Whenever I do anything to the bike ie wash/oil/coolant/other things I always chuck it up on the stand. Keeps it level/stable/makes it harder to knock over and gives you a bit more area underneath too for changing the oil etc.... Get one from Kaneg

They are extremely handy to have. I would get one.
We are small and exposed, and probably moving too fast for our own good, but that's no reason not to enjoy every minute of the ride.

Plus if/when you upgrade, you keep the rear stand. For some basic work such as adjusting chain slack, changing chain/sprockets, or changing tyres it is a necessity. It can be very annoying working on the left hand side of the bike when it's on the sidestand. Also filling fluids etc usually requires the bike to be upright for accurate measurement.
    Not for individual sale.

Investment for me... have two of them plus a front stand... then again my bike has no side stand on it at all so it works out cheaper in the long run than letting my bike fall over.

You could live without one. Especially if you're only talking about lubing and adjusting the chain.

They are very handy though. I wouldn't contemplate being without one.
Much easier than throwing a ratchet strap over an exposed beam, and safer than having the swing arm resting on blocks of wood.

need one definitely. sure you don't service your bike every week but at least oil your chain every 1000 kms or so (some even earlier?) every time you do it, the rear stand makes a 1 hour job a 10 minute exercise.

Alright thanks guys. Pretty much made my mind up, I need one!
The chain definitely needs a lube after 5000km of not being touched.

I called one store in particular, and they're selling a rear stand for $110. In saying that, would I also need a front stand? I don't exactly have much cash so at the moment I can only afford a rear. Also, is there any cheaper alternatives out there? Unfortunately, I missed what the brand it was.

I usually leave the bike on the rear stand in the garage as then the bike takes up less room also.

Contact Kaneg, PSB sponsor and a good product, tell them you're on PSB for the discount they offer

Bought second hand, and I know the owner very well. The chain is fairly rusty too.

Given the PSB discount code the Kaneg stands seem to be the cheapest so I might end up going with them.

MX stand for my tard and centre stand for my GPX. Although, at times having a rear stand for the tard would have been helpful its never been required.

Try do this with a rear stand!

front stand wont be as necessary really, i only use mine at the with with warmers or when working on brakes at home, which you may never do at home anyway.

im not sure about the ninja, but a lot of 250s dont have mounts for pick up bobbins like the bigger bikes, make sure whatever stand you get comes with the L shaped brackets as well which sit under the swingarm.
most come with both , but worth checking.
