It's an adjustable air jet, instead of changing petrol jets it uses a needle to open and close air jets. Gets the same result.
Worth the money:
If you are jetting, then yes worth the money. They allow you to make rich/leaner changes on the fly. Pull over, adjust FC, then test ride. I do my testing on the road and make changes during the run. They help identify when you need to change petrol jets.
They allow you to richen/lean the mix based on atmospheric conditions. The adjustment is limited of course but if you have the right base jetting it is more than adequate.
Quality:
Reasonable. The needles cross thread easily, I had to buy another one before it damaged the FC itself. I was lucky. The needle is the only bit that could do with improvement, the rest seems like good quality. I haven't had any issues after about 1500ks of use.
Dyno tuning:
Forget it. None of the main shops want to know even if you tell them you have adjustable air jets. I think there are some like bike doctor who will but I haven't investigated. Truth to tell though, you start to feel (by the seat of your pants) and hear when you get the jetting right... you begin to feel how the bike rides at different throttle positions. It's hard to explain, it's like carburation enlightment, but I am at the point where I don't believe I need a dyno to tell me I am on the money, I can feel it via the throttle and I confirm by checking the plugs.
Additional components:
You don't need anything else, comes as a kit, but I would recommend a spare needle and extra air hose. The mains system is all you really need. I bought a pilot system as well as wanted to be able to adjust the low speed throttle as well.
These are something I would easily buy again and will when I need them. I intend on fitting one to my R6, I will probably get a remote adjuster for that one so I can adjust jetting easily from the handle bars whilst riding.
They are not something I would recommend to a numpty. You do need to know what you are doing and you do need to understand how a carb works to fully understand what is going on.
