Guys iv officially taken over the importing of the china GPS from my mate and it's now my business as he is far to busy!

Upon further examination of the software loaded on the GPS it's come to my attention that both the TomTom & iGo software were a copy!

I contacted TomTom to notify them & to discuss the purchasing of the license for the software but were completely uninterested and happy to let the copied software be circulated. This does mean so far the only way to update software is to download the latest map and transfer it to the gps(not that hard).

I myself am not happy with the maps not being able to update for customers so will push in any way to get software that is legal!

I am currently in discussions with the iGo company to purchase the licenses for their software so that updates are automatic. Personally I actually preferred the iGo software as it was faster and more user friendly.

My business will be looking at bearing the cost of the software licenses so that we can keep the GPS at the same price as promised for PSB.

At the end of the day I want u guys to be happy with a product that covers what u want. Im going to try also request software from iGo that allows the user to map out a route as easy as possible.

Will keep u guys updated as it goes!

Very interested in one of these for the cruiser Great work mate, hope the software licence costs dont blow you away though. Updated maps are dead easy to install tho, simple copy and paste in most cases on these types of devices. Freely available off the net But I think its great your looking to keep it all legal and above board Well done..

I have tomtom rider 2 installed on my vfr for few years...the link you posted up is the old version 1 of tomtom rider. I'd imagine they have something newer than rider 2 now. i remember paying around $800 for the unit...and can answer questions relating to it.

I also reckon the ability to pre-program a route is a pretty essential feature for me with a bike GPS...so I guess that's one of my criterea for being in on this group buy.

If you already own an android phone, have a play with the navigation part of google maps. It works almost as well as my garmin GPS and as of the last update you can preload maps so it works without a net connection.

The last update allows you to load routes you have set out in google maps on your pc.

There has been big advances in the last few updates, and it they keep up at the same pace as they have recently, the only advantage a dedicated bike GPS will have is the waterproofing and a big touchscreen.
Intelligence and education are three sides of the same coin.

And the fact that you can see it whilst riding along, rather than having to pull over, take your gloves off, pull your phone out of your pocket and check where you are/where you're supposed to be going...

    oh.. sorry

My phone is on my wrist.. in a cheap velcro jogging cover thingo. Maybe I should have posted about alternative ideas instead of keeping it in your pocket. It is charged on long rides via a connection to the bike near my ass as well.

    Lateral thinking rules OK

    Pockets are so 2010

Using a phone that is in your pocket is not practical, buy another device that does the same job that is not in your pocket and mount it on the bike.

Ok, so I'm going to plead ignorance and revoke my previous post...only just realised today that my phone actually had a talking gps app. So the idea of that and a mounted weather proof box actually sounds like a pretty good idea, especially if I get a bluetooth headset.

Have you got the most recently updated version? All I usually do is open up maps, set my route then click on the little navigator icon from within maps and navigator opens up and starts talking to me. Also comes up with something saying I need to download and install some sort of add-on or something to get voice navigation...but it still talks to me anyway? Perhaps it automatically downloaded that when I downloaded the latest update?

From what I have heard and read [haven't used the GPS function yet] , it is apparent that any iphone/Android system is great whilst it is in cell range , but struggles with accuracy due to the slower speed once out of range. [?]

A dedicated GPS is handy for going to remote areas or areas that are generally a bit out of the way form a tower.

This model GPS is also available on fleabay for a similar price, so giving a fellow PSB'er a nudge is much preferred, as long as the 'better' version of the hardware is used.
According to the ADV rider forum , there are 2 identical units sold , one with the much better quality components , and one without.

If the crash test record implies that it is the good one , put my name down as very interested if around the 2fiddy mark.
