    EOI: Trickle Charger GB

    Hi all,

Another Group buy on the horizon. Please indicate your interest in being involved in a group buy for trickle chargers (e.g. Ctek)

At the moment we are just interested in what you price limit would be, and also if you have any suggestions.

Currently I've got a Ctek XS800 for my racebike, and it works brilliantly. I leave the harness permenantly bolted to the battery, and then just remove the seat to be able to clip in the lead while its in the garage, keeping it at perfect charge for the race days.

    cheers

interested, price range I'd prefer $60 to under $100, but I'm not 100% sure what the going rate is for these...

In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

The CteKs are a good smart charger and safe to leave connected all the time, something I would not do with a basic trickle charger.

If you are going to get 3, you could get one of these instead: Battery Tender 12 Volt 1.25 Amp International Battery Charger - 4 Banks: BatteryMart.com

I have one that I got from ebay and it works great. It was a bit pricey once you include shipping and everything though (it's in $US), but it is an international version, so can run off 240V.

Hmmm - I know the CteKs are the best, but pricey, there are some cheaper knock-offs with the same technology (ie switching rather than transformer based, 'intelligent' charging cycles). I have one rated at 3amps (as opposed to 0.8) and so is good for bulk charging too. But regardless, these 'smart' chargers are great - recovered a battery that an old-school charger would not touch. When I get home I will post the name of it, but I know the CteKs are better, AND they are rated for outdoor use (I weatherproof).

Ok, to follow up on my post above, the one I have is a knock-off called a Powertech Plus. 2 outputed currents depending on battery state: up to 3.8amps bulk charge, and a 0.8amp float or trickle charge - has the permanent cables for battery too. A couple of different brands in this flavour, but working on same principle - constant monitoring of battery voltage, and only switching in when voltage drops.

These types are great to hook up to batteries in short-trip only cars to recondition from poor charge/discharge cycles. Had RAC say I am needing a new battery due to age etc (friends second hand car was getting hard to start, nothing wrong with alternator or regulator etc). Put it on charge overnight and has been fine for 2 yrs now - these things (CteKs etc) really do save you money in the long run!

Sorry, probably not on topic for purchase, but just letting the curious know that these smart-chagers are great, and CteKs are the best of them (even tho I went the cheaper option )

Benny I have brought a car battery back to life with an 800mA CteK, just takes a while. Should work fine to keep it topped up. If you want a faster bulk charge you need the 3.8amp model or similar...

righto. my car is going to become the 2nd car as i want to turn it into a race car so most of the time it would be sitting in the garage not being used. if the standard ctek can keep the charge up on the battery thatll be awesome
