Gutsy question. You're a shark. Sharks are winners, and they don't look back because they have no necks. Necks are for sheep.

"countries to join voluntarily"..... Its not worth the paper its written on...... the main culprits are unlikely to join unless those that are members place trade embargo's or promise trade equivalent to the lost trade associated with producing counterfeit items...

^^^ except for the fact that by Australia "joining in" there is larger possible ramifications for so bringing back those copied DVDs from Bali or being in possession of downloaded music/movies/photos, photocopied texts .. etc anything that someone wants to try and enforce copyright on.
This includes extradition to and charges in another country (eg the US) who have corporations that are more pro-active in taking legal action.

We are well past the slippery slope of Big Brother and strangely getting closer to 1984 than most people would care to admit.

edit: I'm not condoning any actions that may be in breach of copyright etc..... but I do take issue with corporations having such an influence over law, and an ever increasing trend of US companies having influence over international law...

As above, if Australia joins then you could get in a lot of trouble for piracy. If not then status quo.

Its the title of the George Orwell novel where the term "Big Brother" comes from.
It was a futuristic/sci-fi story where the people are constantly monitored and under such total control that they are not free to do/believe or even think of anything that is not authorised/sanctioned by "Big Brother" ... who of course is "only looking after our best interests."

Well Stoneville.. lets put it this way.. electronic media is going to be controlled and policed and ENFORCED alot more then it used to ... the govt now has a LEGAL way to get into your private electronic information and bust ya.. Piracy is going to die in a fiery hell of damnation and sacrilege!! moments after I post this message men is suits will break down my door throw a black bag over my head and whisk me off to s prison in the middle of the ocean where no one will ever hear from me again.. all information about me existence will be erased and denied by any organizations or individuals involved!!

not saying that its a great loss if that happens to me but hey.

I think we have to thank Julian Assange for this mighty fine mess with his "I cant keep my mouth shut" dribble ..

Wonder when Eagle Eye will start slowly destroying the lives of people.. hmm...

oh.. the guys i was talking about are here. good bye.....

The Government have not enacted any new laws as yet, simply signed a treaty on anti-counterfeiting measures. So no, the Australian Government do not have a legal way to do anything more than they could before.

Well, you're still here- that's certainly not lending any credence to your argument so far... I think I will go with BenG here.
