Air Asia ceases flights to Europe

Well pissed of with this! AirAsia suspends flights to London, Paris in cost-cutting effort

We have flights booked to London in April to go to the Spanish and Portugese MotoGP's as well as the Isle of Man and NW200 + a nice little stop over in Bali on the way home. All the accommodation, tickets etc are booked and paid for so pulling out is not an option. Looks like we will have a hefty bill for extra flight costs as the Air Asia ones were very cheap. Not happy Jan!

    You had travel insurance, yeah?
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

Yeah, but I doubt they will come at covering the extra cost to go with a more expensive airline. We'll see, worth a try.

    From your link
The airline said passengers who hold bookings after these dates would be given an alternative travel option at no additional cost

I'm affected by this as well. Had flights from Perth - London in June.

Hoping it works out as a win, seeing as they are affiliated with Malaysia Airlines, may get on one of their flights.

    Here's hoping.

Grin - did you get the email? Let us know if you get the 'personal' email they said would be coming out. I'll do the same.
If you leave things to the last minute, it means they only take a minute to do!

"an alternative travel option" would most likely be a flight to somewhere in Asia "No additional cost" would be in there because ANYTHING you change with Air Asia costs money

My guess is that they may offer you a "credit" with Malaysia Air so you just have to "top up" the difference in fares

Good luck, you're certainly not orphans in this, every man & his dog has flights booked with them at the moment

that's really unfortunate. hope it works out.
mind you not surprising as AA just couldn't sustain such low fares.

That's my reading too. Eagerly awaiting this "Individual" email giving me the full run down.

This is the transcript of what we got so far

Please be informed that effective from 1st April 2012, AirAsia X will be suspending our flights to/from London.
We will be sending individual notifications to all guests affected by this move, in stages, based on your respective flight dates, via email and SMS.
The email notices will also outline the various service recovery options offered which are:

    i. cancel your reservation and opt for Full Refund/Credit Shell; or
ii. re-route to any other AirAsia X destination, without any additional cost; or
iii. transfer to an alternative airline subject to availability, without any additional cost.

I would contact air asia asap. If they are going to transfer people to another airline there is probably a limit to the number of seats available on the dates you want. I'm guessing a lot of other people affected will also contact them as oppose to waiting to be contacted.
Also I would contact my insurance see what they will or won't do. If you say you would have to cancel because of the flights would you be entitled to claim back the cost of accomodation etc. If so would they pay the extra cost of flights instead, could be cheaper for them
