    Any Diamond drillers in PSB?

    Hey peoples,

Have recently been approached by a smallish Diamond Drilling Company for employment after applying for a job. The initial wage was lower than I thought it would be. The posible saving grace is the drilling bonus (per metre). What sort of meterage would a diamond drilling team cover in lets say 10 hours.. (best case/worst case)

    Thanks in advance

There are a gazillion different things to take into account when drilling. But from what i recall a NWD diamond rig would average around around 50m a day (12-14hrs).

If you want money per meter, offside on an RC rig. BHPBIO had a maximum of 300m per day, some of the RC rigs would hit that quota given the right conditions in around 7 hours.

Thanks for your replies boys. The starting wage appears to be around $20 an hour. After 2 months trial, money then goes to $22 p/h with a $1.25 per m drilled. Working hours are 10 hour shifts working 3/1 for now possibly changing to 2/1 in future. Working on those figures it sounds as if its start $4000 a month (during trial period) then after (working on 50m drilling per shift) $65k p/a at most which is what im already on.

Do these figures sound right? or are these guys trying to pay lower than standard?

It sounds like the incentives bring it up to a normal wage, when they should take it above a normal wage. I'd have serious reservations about your extra hard work bringing you up to par, not getting you ahead.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

The last FIFO company i worked for shafted me like that. Im earning as much back in perth as i was in bumfuck.

If you want coin, go RC drilling with a company like Grimwood Davies, or look offshore but thats hard to break into.

Worked for Grimwood Davies (RC) a few years ago.. Good setup. It's how I got into the mining game. Some can be a bunch of C*%Ts to work with but it's character building...

    Are you drilling/offsiding?

That'd be a reasonable, albeit on the lower side of reasonable, wage for an offsider/trainee driller, but for a driller... i'd be going for more. Meter bonus seems a little low. Like Stratos said, if you want big bucks for meter bonus, offside on an RC rig. Work's usually a bit easier, dealing with chips instead of core.
