Meh - I've done it a couple of times now, and I really don't think anyone would care. The medicos I talk to generally don't use it, because they don't want to be hassled.

I used to be a tradesman with 2 trades and set to make the big bucks until I ignored doctors orders on treating injuries after being hit by a car and went straight back to work thinking I needed the money. I drive trucks now since most of my body aches continually and manual labour or work requiring fine motor skills for extended periods is close to impossible, almost as much money but twice as many hours and not quite the same respect when you say what you do, heed the warnings and good luck with the healing

I rode my Norton to my first and all subsequent physio sessions, but I did nothing for the first 6 weeks following surgery till the tendon had time to fuse. I had a colleague attempt to remove my left thumb with a chainsaw, so the tendon is a little shorter which means I can't quite open that hand all the way. That said, the physio was stoked with my recovery, saying it was easy to know who was following their therapy instructions and who wasn't.

Flip side my mother has had 3 rotor cuff repairs, the last of which failed because she got complacent about that 6 week rest period, so she now can't lift her right arm from the shoulder very well. As has been said, follow all professional advice to the letter, they really do want you to recover as fully as possible

Small fact: Medical Doctors dont have a doctorate in anything unless they study extra for one. They all have Bachelors degrees and only get called 'Dr' because they've done as long at uni as someone with a PhD.
yeah, but they're useful doctors, not like someone with a PhD.

I'll have you know its very useful having someone round who knows a hell of a lot about a very small and insignificant branch of Chemistry!
Mainly for pub quizzes though, nothing actually useful!

You can do a PhD in that?
Jeez. At least I was affecting the future and doing something useful, not looking at the past and doing something useless!

I saw the surgeon and he said what I had was "mallet finger", he fitted a custom plastic sheath over my finger, I had to leave it in place for eight weeks and come back every couple of weeks for a checkup. If I bent my finger just once, the eight weeks would start over. I followed the doctor's instructions and my finger is almost perfect.

A few months later I did the same thing to another finger and figured "How hard can it be, I know exactly what to do, what's the worst thing that can happen, DIY hand surgery yeah!" So, I made my own plastic sheath and followed the doctor's previous instructions and saved $800.

That finger looks like a mallet.
Yep had the mallet finger as well, mine was while playing cricket on the beach with some mates, ball ernt flying past, stuck the left paw out and the rest writes itself, 8 weeks in a tape splint, fucking annoying.

^This, go through all the options too as to what you think you will need, no point in paying for stuff that you wont need. I made that mistake and was paying cover for psych, cardio and a few others

yeah heard that before, also read the story of a forum member who took that advice and a short time later had some serious heart issues at from memory 22 years old

if you think you need private health insurance get the best you can afford

it's like insuring your bike and finding out you can save 10% by not insuring for asteroid impact there is always the minute chance that you will come back to it after a day at work with a great big space rock hanging out of the fuel tank
