Anyone know how to install a cd player in a car?

    Hello all,

My sister has just bought a jvc cd player for her hyundai elantra 2001 and we do not know how to install it . So does anyone know of any places we could try, we have asked Forrestfield auto electrics and they said it will cost $100 . My sister doesn't want to spend a much money on getting it fitted please help.

    Cheers
    S.

$100 is a very good price.

$100 is a pretty good price, IMO. Depending on availability of adapters to go between the car and the deck, and how hard the car dash is to pull apart, it can take up to 4 hours for a fairly basic install.

In most cases, it's not a simple plug'n'play 5 minute job.

If you were closer I'd do it for a carton of beer on the weekend..... But I CBF'd going to FF to help a random..
$100 sounds reasonable as they can be a cunt of a job.

Having said that, if you have a soldering iron it's not too difficult.

buy an adapter plug. car stereo places should be able to get it in for you. then you just plug one end into the factory loom, and the other into your deck.

that way you can do all the grunt work (pulling dash apart) yourself without having to make a mess of the factory wiring.

    3rded, $100 isn't bad.

Yes, part of the joy of the install is mapping old wires to new.

    And when I say "joy"...

8 of the 12 will be speaker outs.
2 will be power (+ve and -ve)
One will be a 5v trigger that goes to the ignition (so the stereo knows when the car is on)
The last will probably be something like a phone cradle mute or something.

On the stock loom, you'll probably have 11 of those 12, plus one to bump up the brightness when you turn the lights on, maybe one for dash controls, etc... Without having a poke with a multimetre or a look at a service manual or something with a wiring layout, you won't be able to tell...

edit: or you could look on eBay or Google...

The aeropro APP8JVC if the link doesn't work. Looks like an unlinkable web page.
That should be the harness you need. Not too expensive. If you can get the deck out and not too shy of mucking around with wires, follow the instructions you should have it done in an hour or so. From memory those lantra's aren't too hard.

Do not let just any car stereo installer work on the car many of the mainstream car stereo shops are rather unprofessional on work that most never look at in the wiring, dodgy joining clips etc
