    arcade coffee tables, Spacey's!!

anyone remember the 80's space invader type coffee table? I've got a hankering for one. i see nowadays they do copies ones with 60 classic games built in etc. Has anyone got any info or advice on what to look for when buying one?

A friend of mine has one. It is awesome, although it can be a little flakey. It is basically a PC built into a copy of the old tables running a games emulator. His seems to need rebooting from time to time.

It is fun to play the old games.

I will ask him if he has had any issues with it.

I used to work for a bloke who made them.
you can get them with 60 to 200 games, the coffee table style or the stand up.
he is in Perth not sure about the price. they are a few grand 3k+ I think
I can give you his name he may be able to help out.

Buy a shell, put a PC in to it ... Load MAME on to it and you're done.

I have a stand up machine at home with 2500 games on it.

edit: I built mine for about $1000

There are graphics cards that allow you to use a real 15khz arcade screen complete with interlacing. Looks just like the real thing.

    that's the one I wanted ... thanks Kingy ...

what you building mate? I got an old 4 player ninja turtle machine, put all new sticks in it. Just need my jamma card for my monitor. I brought a proper arcade 22" monitor. 2 players work good and just need to work out some kinks for the other 2.

Hey did you get a CP printed out? I am wondering who can do that in Perth. I was thinking ordering something like this from the US but I would also like to do custom labels for the joystick etc. Also the matching marquee.

I see you don't need a VGA jamma card any more ... they have built a PCIe or AGP card which has the plug in built.

not sure if my new pc will allow that to be used.

I was thinking of something like this: Ultimarc, the Ultimate in Arcade Controls.*

yeah that's what they use now ... my problem is my arcade pc is a Dell desktop. I can't go and add that card to my pc. I need to get hold of one of the old conversion plugs to make mine work.

I just run native to the PC monitor.. MAME has a few options to control the graphics, sizing etc. Though it does sound like that card will do it better. I did notice the other day that the galaga graphics seemed a bit wierd in places.

BTW I have a 21" NEC monitor if anyone is interested for this kind of project. Only $35!
