photoshop will do batch processing
create a new action consiting of resize, save and close
then apply to all your files.

if quality isn't an issue, windows powertool resizers is free and very quick.

+1 for the windows powertools batch resizer.
all you have to do is select any number of file, right click, then choose the size you want them

yeah you have to open all the photos in one go the click "apply action" to each one which (if you've set it up correctly should resize and save and close the file.
i reckon this powertools batch resizer the others are talking about sounds easier and quicker....if you've got lots to resize i'd look into that.

For fast and easy resizing, I use the Microsoft Powertoy. (for XP)

You can always use mogrify.
It's part of imagemagick.
Simple and very very quick."In all the human societies we have ever reviewed, in every age and in every state, there has seldom if ever been a shortage of eager young males prepared to kill and die to preserve the security, comfort and prejudices of their elders, and what you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots." -The Culture

Don't need to create action files to do easy resizes in Photoshop...
File --> Scripts --> Image Processor
Choose Source & Destination folders, choose a resolution and hit Run. Simple.

If you have Paint Shop Pro rather than the full photoshop it also has a batch option. Just create a "rule" (like resize to 50%) and the you select all the files you want to apply the rule to and away it goes.
Oh and it also lets you select the new filename or replace, etc... so you can easily create copies, so Image_123 becomes Image_123_small which is what I do so I keep the full size version and have a easily identified small version for posting, emailing, etc.
Though i presume the free tools others have mentioned above probably also do this.Last edited by Kingy; 22-06-2009 at 11:30 AM. Reason: More stuff.
