Some Tafe's are running bricklaying courses in the evenings 'for free' for people to get a taste...then if you do well/like it...access into an apprenticeship.
I know it is being run in Rockingham in june but the dood said he thought it was being offered elswhere aswell....

Ohhh, that clears it up a bit.

after making this thread I realised my Uncle is a bricky, I might ask him and see if i can work with him on the holidays, see how I like it, If I like it enough, i might ask him for an apprentaceship.

When choosing a career, imagine yourself doing that task for the next 10 years and see how you'd feel about that. Bricklaying may not be good for you if you have problems with your knees, back or neck (conversely, it may help strengthen a weak back).

Most jobs in the building industry are paid better than award rates at the moment as skilled (hell, even unskilled) labour is in short demand. Given demand is likely to continue for the next 5+ years, not including the chance of a prolonged recession/depression, it's probably a pretty safe job.

Dont go for brickies its not a very excitinh job and can be very hard on your body..I suggest you go for a carpenter apprenticship..I know few guys who have made a career of this as working they way up the food chain of building eg chippie>site supervisor>site manager>project manager>construction manager

Point is its a good trade to get into and with a bit of a brain you can do very well in the future..Also sparky apprentiship is good as well as they are not manny of them...

Just remember what ever you do make sure you stick with it and finish it.If you want to know more let me know..

    Good luck mate
