yeah my old man is ICE in my mobile.

these look too much like one of those medical contact bracelets to me - the ones that stroke sufferers often wear

NOTE: The other thread was an EOI, this one can be a tech/other discussion. Dubs

Yeah - what I meant was, i dont think it would be necessary unless you actually had a condition.
If I have a crash, then perhaps, but i have no condition that makes my treatment requirements anything specialised.

I went and changed ICE in my phone to her real name, damn confusing forum names!
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

I think that unless you have a Medical condition these tags would devalue themselves if every man and his dog had one.
I have ICE in my phone and my phone is never far from me. Being on the rather disgustingly healthy side, I would leave the tags (Which I think are a marvelous Idea) to those souls who really need that extra bit of care when being treated while they are unable to respond to their rescuers.

Good idea on the ICE thing, I'd never heard of it before.

I've added my ol' man as ICE for me now...
I was asked to take part in a Marathon once... I told them to P**s Off

"Its for the deaf and disabled kids", they said.

I thought, "Hang on a sec.... I could win this....."

Why have it as a USB?
Do they have laptops in Ambulances these days?

I think this kind of thing in general is a good idea, but I can't see why you'd do it as a USB stick.

doesn't seem like a bad idea if you do have allergies or such, but if your hospital has macs or linux you wasted your time, which makes me think it's selling based more on it being a novelty.

Shared Electronic Health Record (SEHR). Then this wouldn't be an issue

Tags would be useful for a health summary for some though, especially if you are on any medications or have specific allergies.

What if you formatted it on a mac?
Still seems rather redundant though when a mobile phone/medicalert will do the same for less.

Ok, so why would I pay $50 for a USB stick that would hold all the same information I could keep on a laminated card in my wallet?

Would the ambos be able to actually check it on the spot?

Correct. I just got a little blood-type identifier from the Red Cross after my latest donation. The nurse says its just a pretty gimmic, as they won't believe what it says, THEY WILL ALWAYS TEST FOR YOUR BLOOD TYPE!

    Bam.

    WTF would you bother for?
Just stick ICE in your phone. Personally if I get hit by a car, I'd prefer people were calling 000 rather than going through a computer to pull up some BS about who to call. You might as well just put that shit on peoples licenses.

    what the point really...

same as ICE in mobile fones..

Call anyone in my fone and they know who I am and how to contact people that matter..
    Same as this little gadget..

hmmm... gadgets are to guys what shoes are to girls..

you could get a NORMAL metal dogtag engraved with your name, blood type, allergies and medical conditions, for next to nothing and the medicos would be able to read it without having to find a pc to plug it into which lets face it, they aren't going to.

this item is dumb unless you have 10 pages of medical info people NEED to know.

On the other hand, the CD-ROM I'm using at the moment is a bit impractical...

As suggested by Bendito to me this morning, if the medico's aren't going to take the tag seriously anyway, you could load it up with bulk porn as well as (or instead of ) the medical information - at least it will show your appreciation to the hard working emergency services tending to your accident
