Just a quick question... Im talking car license, do you get your demerit points 'reset' when you come off your Ps (after being on them for 2 years) ?

Reason I ask, the girl just racked up her 10th of 12 points (hoon), she is set to come off her Ps in 6 months time and seems to think she heard the police officer booking her say to the other cop, "give her the points, she will get them back in 6 months when she gets her full license"

As far as I was aware, you didnt?

nope.

you get them removed three years after the individual offence.

No amount of genius can overcome a preoccupation to detail.

Just to clarify... You only have one licence. Regardless of your endorsements.

The amount of ppl that think they can still drive their car because they lost their licence while they were riding their bike baffles me.

I thought points were removed 3 years after the infringement. But it has been a while since I was on my P's

Yeah, government bought me a license for not getting caught during my P's.

There was talk that if you were going to lose all your points, do it the day after you get off your P's since all you have to do is wait out your suspension rather than go through the whole process again. If you HAD to lose your points. If she gets off her P's in 6 months, maybe thats what they meant?

Yups, 3 full years honey- my first ticket was 3 points for 23kms over the posted limit during my second P-plate year- only just got them back a couple months ago. Your friend's best bet is to take the bus and save us all the worry.

Yeh I realise the licenses are the same

Was just referring to the coming off car Ps, not Bike Ps....

Edit: Guess that answers that question... thanks!

I kinda feel sorry for her, she isnt a bad driver, just the occasional led foot, she got done out front of murdoch uni on South St, on her way to see me, like two nights ago. Heck I would speed if I knew I was in bed waiting for me! (All that 3rd person flirting with myself confuzzled me)

maybe she was trying to make out it wasn't as bad as it really was to avoid a lecturing?

lol

Still don't see how people can lose their license from points like that. I got to 4 or 5 and now have kept them all.
Haven't really changed my driving much either (ok, a little less stupid than I used to be.)

I'd be worried about how much attention she is paying to the road personally.

Yeah I often have a go at her, there really is no training, always scares me... P plate girls, in hyundai excels, with these sunglasses that are the size of their heads, just so unpredictable, avoid them at all costs imo.

Car Ps and Bike Ps are still the same thing - you have Ps for the first two years of your licence, no matter what classes/endorsements you hold.

Despite how many people see it, demerit points received is not a measure of good or bad driving IMHO.

I am told by some people that I am a bad driver, simply because I have lost points from speeding offences. This from people who never speed or even learn the capabilities of their vehicle because 'pushing the envelope' (there is a time and a place for this - I am not advocating recklessness) is too scary - they know how to accelerate a bit, brake a bit and steer a bit, but 'emergency' control would be way beyond them, simply because they don't know what happens.

Inattention as Sathid says is still a worry - you can avoid tickets to a certain extent simply by observing what is going on around you (eg - cars up ahead are all braking suddenly - could be a hazard on the road, or a speed camera/radar - slow down, safer if there is a hazard, no fine for speeding if not).

Mark - I sit at least 10c over ALL the time nearly (conditions dependant).

I haven't had a ticket in over 3 years (since before I was off my P's)

Got done for some pretty hefty speeding when in the first 6 months of my license (38km/h over at one point...)

But I do agree with the comment about bad driving not = loss of points and most certainly that if you are attentive enough, you can generally avoid most tickets. It's why I don't have any.

Doesn't stop me getting told off by my other half for speeding in her car and then backing off when I spot a "hazard" tho.

Accidents are probably a better indicator of driving skill. Should be more reprocussions for people who cause those.

But we are getting off topic here

Have a word with your other half contempo. Otherwise you will be driving her everywhere pretty soon I expect.

she had 10 points already in just 18 month, at that rate she lose her licence before she makes 2 years anyway.

I meant to say 'not always a measure of driving skill'.
I agree with what you're saying - sounds a lot like me (except not quite 38 over ).

I just meant that having a few demerits does not necessarily make a bad driver, nor does having a clean record mean that you are a good driver. Sure, lots of shocking drivers have <strike>lost</strike> accrued heaps of points, and lots of good drivers do have clean records...
