    FIFO split from racism thread

That's ok Szy, K-Rudd's working on censoring all freedom of speech on the internet as it is, your dreams will be realised one day soon.

Living in Australia should not mean having to see if you're allowed to import a book, it should not mean having small breasted women, or heaven forbid, urination or female ejaculation, which are completely unrelated, censored from your viewing material, and it should not mean having perfectly good videogames being banned. Yet that's what modern Australia IS, and it's not getting any BETTER.

Couple that with a high cost of living, and the fact that I will probably never own my own accommodation, let alone the generation that comes after me, I've seriously considered fucking off out of this country. Really. Imagine you were 18; you think this is the land of opportunity for you? Well, maybe if you decide to prostitute yourself out to FIFO work it's not so bad, but anything else?

Take a good look at Perth. The fun police banned drinking on Australia day. How Australian do you feel living here? It's not getting any better, either. Next, we can look forward to stop and search laws, and anti-association laws -- who needs free speech when we don't even think the UN charter can get basic human rights correct?

Is Australia Racist? Yes. Absolutely. But not necessarily any more racist than any other country I've been to. And it's certainly not even on the radar of things wrong with the country.

I'm still holding my breath for a chinese bubble burst bringing on the recession we "never had" fixing the costs of accommodation and living, common sense prevailing rather than the NBN trapping any competition from happening for the next 10 years, and not fucking with legislation as a means to win votes from the grey army. If all of that happens, then let's think about tackling racism.

Just don't expect me to greet every aboriginal hanging around a bus stop as though he won't shiv me if he thinks I have small change.

Typical 18 years old and want it NOW without effort!
I came here at age 25 with nothing other than some basics and a bike.
plan good, work your plan hard, success will come!
    For the average dude/dudette;
Well paid FIFO work is GOOD!= getting somewhere.
    Working5 day's- 8hrs in city is BAD!= just surviving.

Xanthian what makes you feel like doing FIFO work is prostituting yourself? Interested in the POV as if you dont want to do it you dont have to and most of the people i know that do it enjoy it.
Men have motorcycles while women have mensutral cycles, you can't talk to either while they are on it. The women's also has a sound, it goes nag-na-nag-nag-nag, biiiiiitch-bitch-biiiiiiiitch!

Owning your own accomodation is easy, lower your standards - there are plenty of units, duplexes and apartments available in the sub-300k bracket. Sure they may be old, but its still accomodation and is definately within reach of ANYONE who is working full-time on adult wages.

Yes, this is definately the land of opportunity. There is a lot of money out there, not just in FIFO, with lots of business and property opportunities to come in the next couple of decades.

Quit your whining or stand by your word and actually leave. You'll be back pretty soon if you think Australia is bad.

it's not that hard to buy your own place xanxian. I bought my first place, age 23, on a garbos salary. Just be prepared to start small. You will find you can get a decent one bedroom appartment in a bice suburb, with mortgage payments cheaper than actually renting the same place. You don't need to go north, jusr sit down and work out a budget plan. Good luck. (i know, ot!)

I work 5 days- 8hrs in the city, have done for 20 years.

I earn a very average salary, I (along with the bank) own my house, I own all my toys outright and holiday OS at least once a year.

If this is "just surviving" then I am very very happy

Bite the bullet, do it, get on with life....

Actually there are, a few villas were selling round the corner for 380k each... but then again, Shelley isn't what I would consider a 'first home owner' suburb.

    Oh, just several things.

Like the fact that you can be paid better for unskilled work than skilled work.

Or the fact that it's not even what you know or how good your resume is, but who you pucker up behind to get the job.

Or the fact that it's not even about career building. It's about holding the job for a year or two and not spending the money, then quitting working altogether.

My brother became an electrical apprentice. To be perfectly honest, as far as what he actually does is concerned, his hours might be longer, but the work isn't anywhere near as difficult or taxing as what I do day to day, the workplace is a lot more casual, and the people he gets to interact with are probably a lot more clued in to what they actually want.

If he does FIFO work, he'll make better money than a lawyer and doctor his age with moer experience, combined.

I wouldn't mind FIFO work either. But I'm just supposed to turn my back on years of education to do it?

FYI, I'm not 18. 18 is just an age I pulled out of a hat where you decide what you're going to do with your life.

    Please go away.

Besides the fact that we're talking about racism, you're also horribly, horribly wrong.

so your whole argument is based on the fact you feel people doing less work than you are getting more money? A bit childish maybe? If you focus on what other people do and have, you will always be dissapointed in life.

Here are a few concepts for Xanthian to digest...

"It's not what you know, it's who you know"

    "Supply and demand"

"Work to live" (lets be honest - working is about making money, not about career building)

He could earn more than a doctor or lawyer (although I have a few recent grad friends who are on some decent coin) but then again, the doctor or lawyer could go up North if they really wanted and do FIFO too... who cares about turning your back on years of education... you can always come back to it later.

Life is flexible - just because you've done x years in one job doesn't mean you can't switch paths later on.

i prefer not to think of others as unskilled, just differently skilled and willing to do the jobs i'm not. 'unskilled' people on FIFO will get pay more that some 'skilled' people in metro for the inconvenience to their social lives, family lives, etc

Or the fact that it's not even what you know or how good your resume is, but who you pucker up behind to get the job.
I haven't used a resume for 10 years, and I've never puckered up, all of my bosses have a genuine dislike for my attitude, attendance, and views. Fortunately for me I'm good at what I do.

Or the fact that it's not even about career building. It's about holding the job for a year or two and not spending the money, then quitting working altogether.
If I was to walk around a certain operations centre for our company, 80% of people started 10, 20+ years ago, on FIFO rostering. Many are still doing it. These people are both skilled, and willing to whore themselves. How much money would they make?
My brother became an electrical apprentice. and?
I wouldn't mind FIFO work either. But I'm just supposed to turn my back on years of education to do it?
Yes, education and FIFO are mutually exclusive.
FYI, I'm not 18. 18 is just an age I pulled out of a hat where you decide what you're going to do with your life.
I'm 33 and still haven't decided what to do with my life, so instead I prefer to congratulate people for whatever employment they find fulfilling and not resent the fact that I could be doing something else

If everyone put their hand up to work the sort of hours, in the conditions up north then the pay would be much more on par with a metro job. That's the balls and shaft of it mate.
