fish gone fishy heaven :( ....any fish pond people?

so, my parents have a fish pond outside.

there were 4 big ones, and 4 babys.

yesterday 1 baby died and today the other 3 babys died and 1 big one

we havent changed anything since weve built it 5 odd years ago.

could this be due to the hot weather??

if any other fish pond people know or had the same thing?

    cheers

    jack

hot weather means less oxygen is absorbed by the water.

Thats science and shit - apparently you may need an oxygnator thingymabob to keep the O2 levels up - or something like that.

PS - how do they taste?

Water temperature could have done it.

If you haven't cleaned the pond in 5 years, that could also have done it.

I used to have a pond in one of the old houses I lived in. All the goldfish died within a week. Turned out a stray cat was trying to kill them and they must've died of the stress or something. Cat didn't end up eating them tho hehe.

yeah its been cleaned a few times.... my guess is just water temperature... but mum put some ice blocks in there to try and help... but i think the heat must just have overcome them....its really not that warm in there... oh well.

I would look at water quality rather than just straight temp esp. if the babies died before the adults... if now an adult has died I would think that the levels of whatever it is, is rising.

    Have you changed anything recently?
More food given? Anything possibly rotting in there?
Warm weather and a nutrient source will mean algae growth and possible low oxygen levels.

Best bet would be add an air pump of some sort or flow point for water movement, also take a water sample down to local fish store and they should be able to test nutrient levels for you and give you a clue.

Also is it possible some other source of pollution got in there? Weed killer or lawn feed etc ?
Also check out dead fish around the gills or if it has bulging eyes etc could give you clues.

probably the hot weather but not for water temperature but for the algal bloom side of it...it doesnt take much of a constant temperature rise to set of algae to massivly reproduce and drain the water of oxygen......set up a small immersable pump that breaks the surface to increase the oxygen like a fountain set up and even and indoor air pump will help
A site all parents should check regulary

Is the bond deeper than 45cm?

If not i'd say temp rise would kill them off.

My tank inside is already up at 30 and thats inside out of the sunlight. (Stupid no air con.)

If you want a pump to displace the surface and get some more oxygen in there I have one here doing nothing. Also temp will play a factor, they get stressed out with high temp
    lose their gooey coating
and sickness gets them. Is it in full sun?

thats the thing, nothing has changed over the years, we have adjusted food amounts to suit amount of fish.

we built it into the hill, so we have a water channel that we built where we pump water back to the top to circulate it.... so i guess there is some sort of water movement when its pumped back through.

i think after all the ideas, the amount of heat has made it need water movement for oxygen.....? maybe possibly?

i shall put the pump on for a while i think.... does the oxygen pump just disturb the surface? we have a pump that pushes water to the top of the hill and then streams down back into it.
