    The Force

Anyone on PSB a police officer or know one?

Always been kind of interested in becoming one but not too sure...just want to see what people's experiences have been! what's it like in the force? the perks? the bad bits? interesting stories?

There's just so much a website and shiny brochures can tell you!

Ultimately want to be a detective but obviously have to work front line first.

    Cheers ak

Its not a force anymore, its a service. Thats what the 'S' stands for on the end of WAPS.

Force brings up scary visuals in people minds, cant do that. Service is so much more friendly.

I'll be sure to keep an eye on the TV listings for "The Service" on Channel Seven.

They dropped Service quite a while ago. It's plain old WAPOL now - WA Police.

Personally I'd organise speaking with an officer directly, one who's more directed towards education. Dunno how to put it, hang on. For example, at my high school we had a senior constable that would attend the school 2 days a week and offer guidance councilling (like how to pick your subjects for next year, what to do with your life, rah rah rah) as well as presenting a police presence upon the troublemakers (if shit actually got THAT serious). I interviewed him on one of my english assessments and he was really really cool about it all.

I'm not sure if my school was a special exception (please it was swan view senior high, it's no guildford grammar) for being placed with this sort of officer, but he sure as hell made a difference.

Ask the local police station if they have a program like that? I wouldn't leave without a solid direction.

you should ring the police recruiting and have a chat to them they could also tell you if they have any information sessions anytime soon. Another one to look out for is when they have an open day at the academy that would be a good time to go then you will find everything you want to know.

Bear in mind if you speak to officers you may not hear what you want to hear. If you wanna do it i say go for it you may go off peoples experiences but you will never know unless you try for yourself. You might get in and realize you hate it or love it and wish you did it sooner but atleast you gave it a go

Btw no im not a cop... but it is something ive looked into for the possible future.

Dealing with people when they are at their lowest ebb, Who would most likely spit on you then call you a cunt if the oppourtunity arrose. Working shift for your whole life, Not being able to transfer to another employer as your skill set won't be recognised.

    Shit, sign me up /sarcasm

wow, diddnt think id have to use this account again

Im a cop, if your interested just pop down to your local cop shop but what ever you do dont talk to the guys in recruiting, they'll piss in your pocket and tell you that you can do what ever you want to and that its a perfect job.

where in reality you're going to get abused, you're going to get spat and and for the first few months you are going to be placed in divisions that you dont want to go in and you have no say in the matter.

now that the doom and gloom is out of the way

I wouldnt trade my job for anything mate, sure some shit bags abuse us and assult us and most law abiding people never want to see us unless they need us but its in those moments they do and they thank you for helping them, its the best feeling in the world knowing you've made a difference to someones life.

I've worked in GD's (general duties) and TEG (yes i know, i am the scum of the earth) and ive been involved with other divisions such as rail unit and customs.
I love GD's, the diversity is huge and its never the same thing twice so its always new and fresh.

Couldnt see myself becoming a detective as I dont have the social interactive skills that they need to be able to talk to child molesters and murders like they are their best friends but if you see yourself becoming a demon (detective) then by all means go for it, its a calling for sure and I take my hat off to the guys and girls who do it.

also to become a demon you would need to work the front lines first until you get your proby book done (anywhere between 12 months to 18months) but after that you can apply to specialize and become a demon, I know a few demons who are constables still and they love their work.

Shift work is sometimes a pain but you get used to it quickly.

I will be doing my best to become a police officer as soon as I get home from FIFO. I have wanted to do it for a long time now and as soon as I can get fit enough to pass the physical and get selected the better!
