    Going up north Cleaning/kitchenhand etc...

    Hey Guys,

I remember a while ago I seen a few people posting up about jobs for cleaning and catering up north.

The old lady (my mum) is looking for a sea change after 10 years in her current job.

Anyone got any names or details of companies that would hire or recruit for these sorts of things, pleas drop me a line.

She'd need to register with somebody like Universal Sodexho, ISS, Minesite Catering, etc..etc..

yeah cam, thats what I thought. I will get her to go in and register.

i know its a retarded question, but whats the turnover like? is it gonna take a while for a position to open up for her?

I know you might not know these answers...just putting them out there.

Turnover isn't all that swift and it's very often about who you know.

There's a high number of family groups working in situations like that.. Dad runs part of the operation, passes his daughters number to the catering guys, she's up there the following week, jumping over other people willing to work for the past six months.

If she sticks with it, something will eventually come up.

Tell her not to do it!!! Better of getting a job as a store person (Supply Connections for this) that as a cleaner or kitchen hand as they get paid bugger all (about 48-58k, well that is the sodexo contract we have)

If you mums want to put some $$ away as a cleaner or kitchen hand then oil rigs is the way to go but hard to get onto.
Men have motorcycles while women have mensutral cycles, you can't talk to either while they are on it. The women's also has a sound, it goes nag-na-nag-nag-nag, biiiiiitch-bitch-biiiiiiiitch!

she's willing to do anything, as her job satisfaction has gone down the toilet...her situation at work has changed and she gets paid 30k now...so 48 is better than that.

Heavy lifting involved in store persons work?

Not really, anything over 15kgs is supposed to be a 2 person lift (and not too many items over that at all anyway) but it would be very advantageous for her to get a forklift license before applying.

Store people get paid a fair whack more than that and they are (or will be in a few weeks time) looking for more people on the new Brockman 4 site that has an 8/6 roster. Obviously you get paid less for 8/6 than you do for 2/1

Get in touch with the Compass office in Perth for work at a lot of industrial sites along with the ones mentioned above.

Eurest are another pretty big company that deal with village related stuff on minesites.

Do you reckon, if she was given the proper training, she'd like to drive a haul-pack ?
There are companies like Richards Mining Services that train you up specifically and females are usually preferred over males for that sort of thing because they take less risks and don't thrash the machinery.

    just a thought.

    [QUOTE=MottBoxx;1829597]she may do...but she's never driven a large truck before!!![/QUOTE

Thats what trainings for man. My mates old man mowed lawns for a living for 20 years. Biggest thing he operated was his hilux ute. he did it no worries
If she scored a job driving trucks up north she'd more than likely quadruple what she's earning atm.
Just food for thought because as was mentioned before the cooking/cleaning jobs up north are pretty shite in the way of pay and roster and conditions.

well..the cheap arse companys (ISS etc) may do that....but Compass (ESS) doesn't

www.compass-group.com.au follow the "career" links...register..and you will be phoned very soon..process is quite quick (especially if they have no notice period to give for current employment)

Eurest has nothing to do with remote (mine site) work. That is ESS. Both companies are division of Compass Group. ESS is remote and military. Eurest is metropolitan (Perth) work..such as rec centres, schools etc

Be warned...ESS is committed to providing a smoke free workplace. So...although not mandatory, there will be significant and considerable "Stop Smoking" campaigns and support programs.

thanks steve....she has tried to quit before, but has not been able to. a workplace where she can cut back may be some of the helping hand she needs.
