... does anyone have a spring vice/clamp?

And, does anyone know how easy it is to replace them on an 03 Astra?

Or for the sake of a few buck, paying someone to do it - recommendations?

Cheers

If I am not mistaken you can get rubbers from shock places that go inbetween the coils. These will give you a bit more preload.

If you do need to replace the springs you can hire the spring compressors at hire shops for about $10 IIRC.

But why would you want to make a car that low????

if you're gonna do it yourself, be careful.

When you're compressing and uncompressing the springs work on each spring compressor evenly, i.e. 5 turns on the left, 5 turns on the right, 5 turns on the left etc.

MUCHO energy stored in the springs when they're compressed, you definately don't want to be anywhere near them if a spring compressor slips off one side!!

Not a difficult job to do.

before you raise it, check your ground clearance , and if your minimum clearance is more than 100 mm, then get a permit for it instead.
The spring will have to be solid in its mounting when the strut is fully extended though.

I got a permit for my statesman and it solves alot of issues.

Ok my 2c, when i arrived many moons ago to this fabulous state my Maloo ute was found to be a whopping 23mm too low in the front end. 1 trip to pedders and a new set of springs that raised it 15 mm and a written note to the manager of the rta ;on the road, was much better too as it didnt scrape on Everything just most things. A mate just had his original SLR 5000 torana go over the pits and he had hell drama's with pedantic shit, he reckons freo is the best he went to as they apparently deal with moded, or custom vehicles regularly.

dig a big hole and bury the <strike>Vauxhall</strike> Holden Vectra. problem solvered.

Buy a can of degreaser and give it all a good clean underneath, engine bay etc, and if everything is neat and tidy they usually are more leniant on you as they can see you care for and maintain your car, common sense really. Have generally found they will always pick up something minor, just to make you go back and pay a second inspection fee.

Spring issue went in the too hard basket. Got hold of a friend of a friend who owns AutoItalia in Morley, did it for $150.

Tint was stripped this morning... I'll remove the sway bar m'self.

Pits tomorrow morning maybe... I'll just go to whoever is close. The car is only 3 years old, tidy and I don't have any concerns...

Thanks anyways...
