How does this work?

My da has his merc in for a paint job for the past three months... the engine is sitting on blocks in his workshop along with plates. We get a call from the cops no less than 8 times in one morning about our car having been spotted last month taking off from a cottesloe petrol station without paying for fuel. We laugh the first two times the phone rings and it's the cops, then the joke gets old. WTF?

A white merc same model and make? This was camera footage they were basing their claims on.. plates are in a safe in the workshop.

The DPI has been saying they're at least 5 months behind on infringements etc...do they have the date right?
I'm not suggesting your dad would do this btw - it might have been one of the panel/paint guys before the work started if the plates havent always been in his workshop?

We put it down to some bizarre clerical error. Scratch the part about the engine being on blocks, from my estimation he still had the whole engine in separate pieces at the time.

If the car being reported is the same make and model, it might be someone thats seen your dads car, written down the plates and dodgied some of his own up- that way cops dont get suspicious when plater dont match car?

some letters can be eaily confused by the person viewing the pics/tape, apparently. i got a multinova fine for my car on a day when it was 200k's from the scene of the alleged incident, cos some tool couldnt tell the difference between an X and a K

I traded in a nissan pulsar back in Sydney only to get a call from the police about me trying to trade a stolen VK commadore. Plates were the same but different states.
