    Doc says 6+months Sucks!!!

Sorry had to Vent. Really peeved by this.
    /Whinge over/

Now, has anyone else had a similar injury like this (or any other kind), which they managed to get past and still ride?

    Do go on,

How did you get hit by an elevator?

But IMO - If the doctor says 6 months, it's 6 months. You do not want something permanent out of this that will annoy you for the rest of your life.

Well, I was walking into the elevator with a "line" of people, and about 6 people got in and as i was walking past the doors they sort of... slammed... shut on me, shunting me pretty hard. as you do, i laughed and gave the elevator the bird (in front of the CEO ) and when i sat at my desk i relaised how sore my arm was and noticed the massive pins and needles in my arm... its been 3ish weeks and it still hurts. BLARGH

Sorry to hear hope it's not that long to repair.

Frigging elevators, when I was working at the GHD building on Adelaide Terrace I was forever getting hit when the doors closed, you'd press the button, the elevator would arrive you'd start walking through the door and it would start shutting straight away. I kicked the bastards many a time.

My dad dislocated his shoulder coming off his bike in fine/sand/rubble he wasn't going overly fast- but he was caught off guard and the bike toppled over and fell on him, His shoulder dislocated really badly (also affecting his AC joint.) He was stuck under the bike for about an hour or two until the other blokes came into work and lifted the bike off him. He spent the whole day at work and from what I remember- relocated it back himself. He only went to the hospital after work to make sure it was ok...
The doctor who saw him was shocked he made it the whole day and rode his bike to the Hospital, then dad had to trick the doctor into thinking my mum was going to pick him up, so he could ride home...
He spent 6-8 weeks in a sling and stayed off the bike, which needed paint reparations. As soon as it was "better"- he was back on it in a flash.
My dad doesn't really do what the doctor says sometimes....

Can't say I've been cleaned up by an elevator but when I stacked it last year I landed on my right elbow which took my whole body weight travelling at around 30km/h. It didn't break but went all sorts of funky purple and green.
I didn't regain full strength and motion for about a month and that involved half a dozen physio sessions.
It's fine now but that would be mainly thanks to the physio so make sure you do all the exercises they assign you. Yes it will hurt like a bitch especially at the start.
    Good luck

as a lift installer/repairer, this interests me. Sucks about the injury tho.

Doors (especially on office blocks) have dwell times set to maximise efficiency (stops lift waiting at florrs with doors open when no-one getting in or out). They are normally adjusted to an averege between busy times and quiet times, so 6 people sounds about right. Newer setups have light reflecting sensors that pick up obstacles and hold doorrs, until they "time out" and start slowly shutting until closed.
People, don't get in the way if an audible tone is heard.
Some older door sensors only pick up at a few points, so sticking an arm or leg in won't re-open the doors. Others have a large rubber strip (bumper) on the leading edge of the doors, these require a physical blocking to re-open the doors. But again, as the doors beep or tone, don't get in their way.
Curious if you were already standing in the opening between the doors when they began to close, or whether you tried to 'duck in' before they shut? Just from a technical p.o.v

    All the best in recovery

The doors were still open as i was walking in, they shut pretty hard as i passed by the doors (people behind me were very suprised by how quickly they shut). I didn't try squeezing though or stop them from shutting, i was literally just casually walking through in a queue of people.
I guess it could have happened to anyone, i was just that unlucky one.

probably someone in the lift initialising closing by pressing door close button, or the sensors are fucked. Doors do not close on people without warning (audible or red lights if newer install) or if obstacles are in place unless fucked (or the older nudge switch setup, but little force is needed to trip open). Your facilities management is wrong.

I've got a bursa or bursitis in my right shoulder.
Not sure if they are the same thing, but it sounds similar.

Stopped me riding for about a week, but has lingered around for years.
I still can't throw a ball without it causing me pain for days after.

When I get pro-active about getting it sorted, I'll be going to Andrew Stanford at "Made to Move" in Duncraig. Highly recommended physio.

A bursa is the a Fluidy sac which provides a cushion between bones and tendons and/or muscles around a joint, and a bursitis is the inflammation of a Bursa (or plural Bursae) – seems I have the same issue you do… Sux!

    That description brings back memories.
Recomended fix by my GP was an ultrasound guided cortisone injection, but it didn't help.

I recomend not doing what I did, and just get it sorted ASAP.
It's not a good thing to have hanging around. In my case it doesn't affect day to day stuff, but restricts sport options.
Also, I imagine you will be able to get workers comp, or have the building insurance cover your medical expenses?

    Thanks Stoneville,
I tried a Bike Jacket on the other day, it kinda proved to me my shoulder wasn't better, couldn't stand the pain of my shoulder with the position my arm sat in the jacket!
    But, hopefully soon.
