Hey guys and gals!

Stephyyyy here.
I'm just posting this thread up, cause it occurred to me today while I was working, that since we're understaffed, where would a good place be to ever find more and more people who may be interested, that have a bike license, and are looking for a job that isn't 9-5 behind a desk or behind a cashier.. In fact, there's no talking to customers at all..

Ok don't laugh, but the job I am talking about is with Australia Post.
Before you start reading further, anyone who's going to make stupid pointless comments, please don't bother.. As this is for anyone who is sitting on their asses all day wanting a cruisy job that pays well, and doesn't deal with people, and has a good atmosphere, and you get to have a lot of fun etc etc.

The job position I'm going to explain is a Postie (Postal Delivery Officer)..
And the reason I'm writing this in the first place, is cause we are understaffed at the moment.. A lot of Aus posts are.. So I thought, who knows, maybe I can help out a little by getting more people interested. And Australia Post hardly do any advertising, so they wonder why they are understaffed. I thought, how about putting the information out there, on PSB, where everyone just about rides a bike, and I'm sure they may be one or two interested people atleast.

This is probably headed in the direction of the younger people.. Just because the younger people will LOVE the pay, and will most likely be there for 6 months - 1 year while they're finding out what else they'd like to do in life.. Or just spend 1 year earning good money, and this is definitely a good way to do it. But for anyone else who is older, and is still interested, don't worry cause more than half the people there are probably over 30-40.. (Even though they've been there 20+ years and have no life...) But, it's for all ages, all races, all wierdo's etc.

The reason I'm working there, is cause it's sort of a fill in job, till my career move, which will happen most likely this year..
And believe me when I say it is one of the better jobs out there..
I'll explain an average day briefly.

You start at 6 (Yes that sounds like a pain, but I LOVE early starts cause you're up before traffic, and it's nice and cool)
Basically then you sort your mail which includes sorting into a frame, redirections, registered letters etc, which goes till about 7:30ish - 8:00.
Then you bundle all your stuff up and stick it in bags which you take with you.
You're about ready to leave the centre at 9:00ish, you jump on your little Honda CT110 (Piece of SHIT) and ride off to your first delivery point.
You'll be out there for roughly 3-4 hours, delivering the mail.. When you're done, whatever time even if it's only taken you 2 hours! You ride back to the centre, and that's it, you're done.

Some coole benefits that you probably don't get in most work places.
You can listen to you Ipod, phone, talk, chat, joke, while inside the centre as much as you want..
As soon as your out there though, the rules are you can't listen to music etc.. But, well.. anyway.
It's always work, there is no waiting, or boredome, but you've ALWAYS got your job to do, the quicker you are, the earlier you get to go home!
You get 2 breaks like before you leave out on your delivery, which is pretty cool!
Say, if you finished before your allocated time, you can still go home, (Even if it's 3 hours earlier!) but you will still be paid till your allocated time.
The hours vary on the days, but Tues, Wed, and Thurs, allocated times are 6-1:30pm. If you finish all your mail at 10:00.. You will go home at 10:00, and still be paid till 1:30.. Yes, it's awesome..
One of the reasons I am also posting this though, is cause we're understaffed, we have to do more work each.
Cause if someones away, or a spot is vacant, we have to do their mail, which means sometimes on busy days I have been out there till 5:00pm! (But you never work later than 5).. It is tiring sometimes, but the pay is worth it.. And it'll only be busy like that usually at Christmas, so this time of year is one of the best times to join!

I'll write a few less benefiting aspects of the job.
Obvously when it's summer, or winter, or hailing, you do have to work still, but honestly, once you're out there, it's really no big deal, it's a lot less worse than you think.
If a lot of people are away, then you do have to do their work.. (Not always, cause it'll get shifted around) But if they need you then they will expect you to help them out once in a while (But this wouldn't happen if we were fully staffed! )
Erm.. Thats about it.. And it's not even that bad, cause you're getting paid for it.

I'm not going to give out too many details, incase I'm not allowed to do all this, but pay is:
First 3 months from the day you start till 3 months is over, You're on trainee pay, which is roughly $18.00 per hour, but because you start at 6:00 (Before 6:30), you're entitled to shift loading, which is 15%, so you're always going to be on ~$21.00 for the first 3 months.
As soon as that's over, then it jumps up to ~$24.00 (That is including the 15%, so technically it's $21ish).. per hour.

I'm sure that's crap pay for some people over 25, 30ish, but for me who's 18, I'm fricken loving it.. finishing early, great, great atmosphere, just riding on a bike all day not talking to anyone, or dealing with shitty customers.

If anyone is at home, doing nothing, and is LOOKING for a job, for short/long term, that isn't your everyday job, that you don't have to deal with shitty people, that is really a nice environment, then have a look into becoming a Postie for a while, I think you'd all love it!

Anyway, this is how you apply, if you'd like to go ahead and do it yourself.
Go to the website Australia Post - Home
Scroll down and click 'working with us'..
Click 'Jobs at Australia Post'..
Click 'Entry Level Positions'..
Click 'WA'..
Click 'Jobs at Post".. (It should open a new window)
Basically it comes up with a list of available jobs available in blue print.
You'll see Malaga come up a lot, that's where I work, it's probably one of the busiest places, or at least in the most demand for posties.. But you just click on whichever one you're interested in..
It would be P/T, F/T, Night sorter, any other catagory in Aus post, but I've got the most info only on Posties, not much else..
Just fill out all the questions, just like a normal application. At the end, you'll get a reference I.D, about 6 numbers (I think).. Then what will happen, is this lovely young lady named Lauren, in NSW, will be reading your application, and seeing if you're a good enough candidate.. I'm sure you will be as you've got to be pretty damn wierd not to get in to Aus Post.
But this is where I can help.. I've gotten another 3 people jobs at Aus post.. They're loving it, but I've helped them out by speeding up the process.. Cause I can give Lauren a call as soon as you give me your reference numbers after you've filled in the application.. They usually go quicker on recommendations (That's how I got in).. So that's pretty much it, it'll all be you and recruitment from there on.
They pay for your medical test, uniforms, 2 day induction course and 2 day bike rider course, they pay for it all.. You just have to turn up

This isn't a post about trrying to get people to join cause we aren't desperate or anything.. But we'd love to have full staff once in a while, and I'm not just takling about Malaga, there are plenty of places available, just click which is your preference on your application..

And again, I'm just trying to help people out.. Cause I definitely would've been interested myself if someone had written this when I was looking for a job, and I am very glad I found this. It beats working in any bloody retail store, serving food, dinner, appliances (Unless you're really into that stuff)..
And if anyone doesn't want to write on here that they're actually interested, then feel free to email me.. stephyyy@live.com.au, and let me know how I can help.. Or just do the application yourself and wait for your call

Thanks for reading guys! Hope you enjoyed, and hope this doesn't get deleted for some reason cause I wouldn't know what I'm doing wrong exactly, but ah well, Maybe see you all in your bright yellow fluro shirts zooming 75km downhill with your hat flaps blowing in the wind

Thank you all!
Stephyyyy!

P.S - You do need a motorbike license if you're going to ride the CT110's, basically a F/T job, but part time they've got eletric push bikes, which you don't need a license for, but the P/T positions aren't as easy to get..
