Something I have always wondered about...

Imagine if I ride down freeway north from Perth to Hodges at 130kmh the whole way and never slow down. Then imagine I get flashed by a rear facing camera near leederville and I keep going. Then I get flashed by another rear facing camera near the whitfords ave exit.

My question is, can I get two speeding fines for only speeding once? If so, where does it end? Maybe they should line up 10 multinovas 10m apart and turn every $50 fine into $500 worth of fines!

You could always take it t court and argue the fact that if you had been pulled over in the first instance and informed about the errors of your ways, it is unlikely you would have been booked a second time because you would have addressed your hoon like behaviour after the first booking.

I don't think you do get two fines, or if you do, you can take it to court.

Now I can't find any hard reference, but I think I either read something to this effect or was talking to a cop about it.

You may remember a few years back, the plod announced they would be setting up 3 Multanova in a row on some country roads.

Well this they did, and doubtless pinged some people doing 120 in a 110 zone three times.

Someone took it to court and successfully argued that the principle of only being charged once for the same offence should apply.

So my belief at the moment is they won't put more than one Multanova on a stretch of road, unless there is a change of speed zone.

In your case, going from Perth - 80 km/h limit - to Hodges - 100 km/h limit - I would suggest you could get two then, but if you get zapped near Powis Street, and again at Hodges, and there has been no change in your speed, then surely you've only committed one offence.

But I'm not a lawyer or a copper.

By the way this story is completely theoretical. I don't think I have ever been done for speeding on the bike.

Generally they charge me with reckless or dangerous driving.

I would say yes cos how can you prove you didn't slow down and speed up again?

If you kill 2 people you can get done for 2 murders and if you rob 2 people you get done for robbery twice. So you cant then claim you have already been charged for robbery and as it was all part of the same spree its shouldn't count.

But what I'm saying is that if I speed from Perth to York at 130km all the way non stop then I literally only sped once, yet I could be charged more than once.

If I rob two people then I literally rob two people!

Im sure there is some pisspoor legislation in place to allow for multiple fines for the same offence, it would be something along the lines of if the 2nd multanova is more than 250m from the 1st one that caught you speeding you are fair game for dual fines!

me too, they also take your average speed between bridges so you can hoon in between then stop before the bridge for a few mins

If it is one act, one speed zone then you will have committed one offence.

If it is one act, two speed zones you will have committed two offences.

AFAIK the system times how long it takes you to get between two points instead of taking individual readings at each point.
