Importing vehicle from UK to Aus

Brains of PSB....2012 and all that jazz and Im already looking at ways to burn more money

Im considering importing a 1972 Jensen Interceptor into Perth from the UK.
Apart from the normal pitfalls of buying a car from the UK (rot, spares etc etc) is there anyone who has done this import shinanigans before and knows the approx cost of everything?

The way I read it, I don't currently own the car so It doesn't qualify for the 12 months ownership 'rule', but it will be a personal import...and its over 30 years old (made before the 1989 cutoff date), so no duty, but subject to 10% GST, plus handling, customs, quarantine costs etc etc.
Whats it cost shipping wise to put it into a container and get it here?

To throw a few figures in the mix..say the car purchase is around 15,000 AUD what would be the approx landed/drive over pits cost?

    Cheers

For all the hoops you need to jump through go here:

    Importing Vehicles to Australia

It won't be a personnel import as you haven't owned for 12 months, you most likely will bring it in as rare and collectable. For shipping it you can either go roll in roll off on one of the car carriers it will need to be in good mechanical so it starts straight away if the shippers have to mess around they charge. You'll probably be hit with Quarantine the other solution is a container round figures it was 5k for a 20ft and 10k for a 40ft.
