I just heard from my mum, that my little brother (who is actually 6.3ft) won the Fenacle festival side car races in Karratha on the weekend!

It is a huge deal, most of the Pilbara goes to this. I have no idea what category he raced in, but he is psyched!!

For those that dn't know what Fenacle is, I will explain: Karratha, Roebourne, Dampier etc has a big festival every year, like a mini royal show, which is free to attend, but you pay to use the rides etc, over the same weekend they hold the Fenacle races at the speedway and the Jet boats, and racers from across the Pilbara and some state people attend.

Fenacle got it's name from three companies that sponsor the event; Hamersley Iron, Dampier Salt and Woodside LNG and the proper name for the event is Fe (Iron) NACL (Salt) LNG (LNG) (shortened to Fenacle).

It used to be called FeNaclIng when I was working "Up North" circa 1990-1994 'ish.

Its still Fenacling as far as my folks are aware, they run the church hamburger stand, makes a killing every year its on. Ive yet to get my arse into gear and go up for a look yet though.

I lived there for a year and never knew there was racing going on over Fenacle week though! Karratha high school peers FTL.

maybe if you had given it a chance you would have enjoyed it.

Fenacle or Fenacling and why it beats the Royal Show:

- Under age drinking was pretty much mandatory
- The whole place gives itself an extra day off, and the pilbara gets a long weekend where Perth has to work
- There is racing of some sort for 3 days, Jet Boats, Bikes, cars.
- it's free, instead of the $30 odd for the Royal Show
- it brings entertainment to a small town where people work hard and miss out on things people in Perth take for granted.

But you did go to Karratha High, what do I expect? Thank god you left and took your "everything sucks, EMO attitude with you"
