    Is it just me.........................???

In the last year or so I have spent more time in Perth than I have over the last 30 years. I'm enjoying riding my bikes on most occasions(that's another story).
I am in total disbelief at the number of vehicles driving around Perth with no brake lights, one head light(on a good night) and no tail lights.
Did I miss something. Are these things non essential now?
I'm sure, at night these faults must "Stick out like dogs balls". Am I the only one who notices? I can remember an age not so long ago, an Officer would pull you up and tell you. And it was best to get it fixed the next day, as they seemed to find you again and it was "Canary" time.

Does this not happen any more?

Or is it just the simple fact there is more revenue in speeding and road safety is just a poor second cousin???

Don't forget the number of headlights that are aimed upwards, particularly on taxis (my headlights are adjusted properly).

Great fun anytime, particularly when they pull up behind you at the lights.

I see cars with their headlights off most nights. I flash the high beam and then turn my headlights off and back on a couple of times to get the message across.

You'd be horrified at how often I just get a blank or offended look from the driver as they continue on.
One owner. Only driven gently on Sundays. Sold to best offer. First to see will buy. Reward offered for safe return. Coming soon to a cinema near you. Available for a limited time only.

My waterbed broke this morning. Oh, I don't have a waterbed. Bugger.

No it's not just you, the cops don't seem to be interested.

I've pulled up next to one at the lights, wound the window down to let the driver of the vehicle know, was royally abused for it, thought to myself that if they get rear ended it wont be the driver that hit them fault, it will be yours and your insurance will more than likely not pay to repair your car
Somehow it's reassuring knowing that I'm not the only one pretending to be normal.

That is because a speed camera cannot pull you over and tell you about your light.

If they get rear ended they will most likely get away with blaming the person who hit them, since they can blame them for breaking their lights. It's unlikely insurers will believe the person who hit them without a witness. Which is why it would be nice to have a few cops on the road enforcing some rules on lights.
Personally whenever I've told someone about dead lights they've thanked me.

I know plenty of people who have one light and just never bother to replace it, Coppers pull you over if you have a busted tail light but there is no police presence these days so it hardly ever happens.

What REALLY shits me about some of my friends is that they will drive around in this bucket of bolts, haven't had it serviced, haven't checked the brakes in god knows how long, tyres are bald, bulbs blown front and back, the thing sounds like it's being torn apart by a gremlin from the inside when its rolling along, and if the cops give them a yellow sticker they say something along the lines of "Fucking pigs, now my car's not roadworthy."

Your car was never roadworthy, and it was a fucking danger to everyone else you selfish mofo, thank jebus the coppers actually yellow stickered something that's a hazard for a change, not just a F.E.

If the brake lights are on when the car is hit (which they should be if it is stopping) and aren't completely destroyed in the accident the filament should be hot and bends a bit before breaking. So if it is investigated properly they should be able to work out whether the bulb was blown before the accident or during the accident. That only works if the brake lights don't get smashed though, obviously, and I suspect insurance companies wouldn't go to that level of investigation.

I pulled up along side a young gal the other night coming home from work at Abernathy Rd / Kewdale Rd lights and told her she had no brake lights. She was driving a newish Toyota. She replied "Thanks. I know one is out." I said "You have NONE. ZERO." And off she went.
New cars these days seem to have more brake lights on them than ever before.
So is it the fact, one goes out you have plenty of spares?
Is it the same as spare tyres? How many cars are driving around with a flat in the trunk?
Countless times between Perth and the Northwest I have stopped to help someone who has a flat. Spend a while unloading their trunk to find their spare is also flat. My 22.5 generally don't fit cars or 4 wheel drives.

I know it is way too much to ask a check sheet be introduced for the average motorist to fill in prior to start driving each day. That's something only miners and truck drivers have to do.
