    Keys and rego missing!!

OK, so I get back from a holiday to find my keys are missing, but figure I've probably just misplaced them. Then I went to change the rego label only to find the old disc is missing as well! I had a good look and it doesn't look like it's broken off or anything, it's just not there.

So, how much for a new HISS key? And the new disc goes on the RHS, behind the plate right?

Are you totally taking the piss?...or just the rego label bit?

Fark D'Art...that's not good. If'n it was a Yammy....you'd be up for BIG $$$ if the HISS key = the RED key.

    Hope it works out mate.

HISS is Honda, not Yamaha... right? You can only make a copy off the RED key, if you don't have any keys at all, then yeah you are in strife.

disc goes on the left hand side, must be clearly visible (see my thread) or I think down on swing arm is ok as well (on the left). Must be visible from 2m away, either way

Go sit and have a nice cuppa and contemplate where your super duper key hiding spot is (for fark sake where did you put the master key when you bought the bike??) or what is the best way to sell yourself to raise the money for a new barrel/ignition system

They've changed the way this works now, correct me if i'm wrong, but you've got a late model vfr 800 right? If it's 06(i think) or later, it only came with 2 black keys and a little piece of metal on the key ring, on that tag is an 8 digit code, that's all you need to get a new key, just that code....

I was just comparing what the likely damage in dollars would be, if the significance of the missing HISS key was the same as the Yamaha Red key.

Tin Tin further clarified the Honda course of action.

And if this is true, then even if you don't have the tag, one would expect that the dealership would have that code on file somewhere against your name (if you did in fact buy it from a dealer as a new bike)

it's not that big a deal with HISS.

you need to go to a Honda dealer with the key you have, they will get a new key cut and then they connect up to the computer on the bike and program in the new key code to the HISS system.

i think it's about $200 for the service from memory.

Thanks for the heads up. No "red" key thank goodness, and I do have a spare. I'll organise to get another cut. My little one has a habit of hiding keys but I've checked every shoe, nappy box, toy box etc...must have to learn to think like a two year old...

As for the rego disc, the whole thing is missing. Sticker, holder, everything. I bought a new holder today so it's not a big deal, but it is a worry.

And thankfully Stoney, I won't need to sell myself. Would have made a buck fifty maybe? :p

    Typical Honda rider....over priced!!!

Glad you have a spare key D'Art. Spend some $$$'s and get a small safe or key cabinet.

HISS actually comes from the people going in to their dealers to get new keys for ones they've "lost" after they've returned from holidays. It's an acronym for Hidden In Silly Spot.

    Good luck with it!
