Does anyone know a good way to learn french as an adult? I did it back in highschool and would like to be able to converse in it eventually.

Try " Alliance Francaise de perth" www.afperth.asn.au these guys have couses running all the time weekly and condensed 2 - 4 week programs.
They also have schools in France where you can do some study to get up to speed quicker.![]()

I went to TAFE to study, cost about 120 dollars a semester but I gave up in the second semester because the lecturer was poor and work commitments made it very difficult to turn up. The little bit I have learnt has occasionally been useful while travelling mind you.
do what i did, go live in a french ski resort for five months, and you never need to know any more french than...... merci ..... and..... jambon un fromage panini ...... hell, that got me through my time there!
and pissed girls the world over speak the same language anyways.....![]()

It's like rididng a bike. Very to to pick up again. Otherwise Club X will have some movies you could study. Alternatively, the internet had plenty of free sites to study.Does anyone know a good way to learn french as an adult? Best way to advance initially is to practice turning your tongue up-side down and get a couple of tongue rings![]()

French with Michel Thomas is a good 'learn from audio' if you can get it Perth. Kind of different then the usual 'repeat after me' crap.
The mp3's are easy to find on p2p too...
Rosetta Stone
Had a go on a German Sample, and seemed pretty good "der junger springt" or something but they have lots of languages and I'm sure a resourceful person could find a creative way of obtaining a copy with minimum expenditure. Then you can tell the French girls to "Sucer le jus de mon énorme..." or something like that
This post is now diamonds! I'm on a horse.

I use the Rosetta stone and find it very good with speech recognition function, writing, etc.

I have the french and german ones at home somewhere, well worth a look

but I need a bit of flexibility so the normal class thing wasn't going to work for me.
Instead I found a lady in Kelmscott who teaches French from home and its great. Its just
one on one and just $22 for an hour and a bit. I'm not sure how far Leeming is from
Kelmscott but if your interested just PM me. I know some people have mentioned tapes
and websites but I think it is almost impossible to learn a language that way (aside from
basic phrases) especially French. Having said that, there is a good BBC website. I think
it is www.bbc.co.uk/languages or something like that.
I find it quite tough (verbs and tenses) but I'm making progress!

Spiral out, keep going...
Hey! Not sure if you still wanna learn French (you actually might be fluent by now, lol!), but if you wanna learn any foreign language go to the country where that language is spoken for a language course. I was the same with German: did it in highschool back in the day, and kind of remembered some grammar and words, but wasn't able to actually speak it. And I went to Berlin for five weeks. The course was a bit tough at times, but overall my stay there was wicked, and I'm now able to read books in German, which I never thought I would! What I think also helps is listening to the radio (you can find many online). Good luck!
Holy thread revivals, batman!
+1 Rosetta Stone
