There are reports that changing the version number will change where the game looks to be peered and may also not peer with others that gore still disabled, but the best waya round this is to let every aussie know!!!

EDIT:

I have just tried without luck to join some half empty lobbies. THis is in no way a 100% indication that you cant play with people that have nopt altered their files, but could bea very high chance.

I really dont understand why they screwed the pooch.

You can also do this — it's what we did (did the group pre-order):

have to go to steam uk web store
Google 'steam cc=uk'
the steam store will then have prices in pounds
go to l4d2
buy it using credit card
put all your details in like normal
BUT make sure your country is set to uk and tick 'i live in this country'
and that's it
