    Mercedes to join V8's

Here is the link to the full article on The Australians Website

    To quote from it :

...V8 Supercars Australia is expected to open the door again with the unveiling of its Car of the Future template that will relax rules governing components such as engines and suspension -- while continuing to run it as a series exclusively for V8s.

Hyundai, Toyota and BMW have also been suggested as new entrants.

The article claims that skaifey could be behind the wheel of a silver arrow.

Although it wont be a factory team, as for some reason the Asia Pacific branch of Merc is not allowed to go racing.

Good to see other manufacturers coming in as well, Tojo and BMW I know build V8 engines, but Hyundai? Really?

I reckon it will be good for the series, I think that some of the struggling teams switching to the new manufacturers in droves in a bid to be more competitive, if they get the support from them, it can only be good, more drivers coming through or going o/s to gain experience in other series

    What do you think?
Somehow it's reassuring knowing that I'm not the only one pretending to be normal.

Hmmm...didn't they do this a while ago, and when no Aussie cars won, they changed the rules?

I may be wrong but I recall after the GTR/Sierra era, BMW wanted to race a V8 sedan (5 series) and the rules were hastily changed to prevent BMW running.

Personally I'm all for it. I think the V8's lost a lot when they went to a two make series with cars that are no longer based on production vehicles but are merely shells on almost identical chassis designs.

    But that's just me

About time they let some different cars into the races. Keep the rules similar but have a few more manufacturers. Will be interesting to see how Ford and Holden go against the german cars

I'd rather watch v8 touring cars then just holden and ford.

I reckon it would be heaps better for competition

Could be awesome, especially with rule changes allowing teams greater freedom. Makes sense form a business perspective too. This opens the way for a lot of new sponsors, even more so if they continue to increase the number of overseas races. Not that WA fans will get to see them.

Toyota would have to use a Lexus based car like the ISF as all the Toyota sedans are FWD

hyundai makes a v8 its just that we dont get it here (its the genesis in the US)
by all reports its actually a pretty good car so i reckon they could create a race engine

would be good to have a proper touring car series again
maybe thisll get barbs upgraded quicker

Wonder how long they keep moving the goal posts for before the new outfits pull the pin.

You know like they did to Toyota last time...

    awesome!

remember back in the good old days when Mark Skafe (spelling?) used to smash it in a Toyota. They absolutely dominated the field.

Aussie touring cars appears to actually be a very successful franchise and it would be great to see it expanded. Especially given the inevitable fact that Ford will stop making a falcon in the not too distant future.

    You mean Nissan, right?
I think the whole point of this is to introduce some new cars And cornering ability into the mix and ignite some interest and enthusiasm into a very boring, tired old race series.
