    Moments

This thread is about posting a single photograph that you have taken or are involved with and then telling a short story around it that describes what the photo is about. A story and a photo that was a memorable or significant moment for you, and may (or may not) be interesting to others.

    Rules:

The photo and story do not have to be PSB related.
The photo must be yours or of you and not some random shit taken from the net.
The story that goes with the photo must be something you experienced.

So, I’ll kick it off... and I look forward to seeing what pops up.

So on the eight day, after wasting time faffing about with unimportant guff like heaven & earth & the waters & sky & creatures [& having a wee kip] & man.... God created PSB (GenesiSX-R1000)

I was 17 and my Grandfather, a former Ravensthorpian, was in the last few weeks of his life having fought cancer for several years. He was being nursed at home and pulled me aside one day and handed me a piece of iron and wood and said “I want you to have my rifle. Its a good rifle, shoots straight, is Ausi made, and will be a good rabbit gun to you”. The rifle was a Sportco Model 10A in 22LR which was made by a company called Sportco from Adelaide. Sportco was born in the post war era where sporting firearms were impossible to source as firearms that belonged to sporting shooters were taken by the military for the war effort. They became an icon of the proud and thriving Australian firearm industry until it closed in the early 80s. The Sportco I was handed was rusty, tired, and the stock and forestock were deeply grooved where the firearm had been wrapped up in a canvass sack and left to roll around in the back of his vehicle for years. It still shot true for a .22 tho,... in fact still is the most acurate 22LR I have ever shot.

I spent the next few months restoring this thing by hand, sanding out grooves, polishing, re-blued it, and on my 18th birthday walked into the police station and went through the process of licensing it (allot easier in those days).

This firearm was the start of what became a hobby, and initiated a much larger collection, and got me interested in pistol sports which I have now been involved with for many years.

Whilst the Sporto almost never comes out of the gunroom these days with far more appropriate calibres and more modern firearms to play with, my 5 year old is now just big enough to grip it, thumb the safety and reach the trigger. He doesn’t have the reach to stick the butt into his shoulder or rest his cheek against the stock yet, but its only a .22, hardly moves, so he just wedges it under his arm.

This photo is of Harrison shooting his Great Grandad's rifle for the first time. He was chuffed... and I shed a tear.

Said in Monty Python voice: “won deey son...thisl be yorrrs”.

PS: Dear Firearms Act do-gooders. Before you get all uppity... the sealed surface in the background is not a public road, it is part of my long private drive on a private farm, and there are no age restrictions on the use of a firearm (other than a handgun), while under supervision. I am well aware of the laws. Thanks for your concern.

    Nice, and a nice idea.

I like the idea of this thread Deej, sorry to drag it to a low so quickly after your touching OP. But it does involve a gun. Of sorts.

My little boy after losing the dog he had grown up with, and realising he and 'Chocky' will get on just great for many years to come...

edit: to flesh out the story a little... We lost our old dog (Bull Terrier) at 13 yrs of age, and my little boy was completely gutted "Who is going to protect me and sleep in my room at night? I miss him!" And would sob his little heart out. We considered remaining dogless for a while, but succumbed soon after and brought home wee 'Chocky'. We relaxed the dog-on-bed rule, with this result. Dog begins the night down at the foot of the bed, but creeps up for a cuddle later on So these two boys will now grow up together...

I'm going to bust out a rather important wedding photo before it becomes a potential cliche.
My missus and I had met while she was over here studying and after much pestering on my behalf, she finally agreed to go out on a date with me (her excuse up until that point had been that she didn't want anything to interrupt her studying). After a frankly disastrous first date that showed up our rather different tolerances to alcohol (she would have to practice long and hard to even attain the status of Cadbury kid!) and ended up with me unsuccesfully trying to figure out how I can safely see an extremely drunk girl home on the back of a GSX250 (taxi ftw) we continued to see each other which progressed into a rather awesome relationship right up until the point that she finished uni and had to return home to Japan.
Now if I'm honest, I had led a pretty aimless life up until this point, working a few go nowhere and truly mindnumbing jobs so meeting someone that actually gave me cause to think about the future was a pretty big deal. After an agonizing 14 months apart, we finally tied the knot in Kyoto in 07. Ever since that point, I have found myself on a pretty clear and direct path to achieving goals that I would never have even given a seconds thought to, let alone attempted prior to this rather life changing event.
So this random photo of a certain someone signing a little piece of paper would have to go down as the most significant moment captured on film in my 30 years on this little blue orb we call earth. Photography can be an amazing thing sometimes.

    bus.jpg

This is a shot taken on the way back from Lancelin whilst leaning out one of the windows of the crappy 1977 Toyota Coaster I have a 1/6th share of, on the way home with a bunch of tired and hungover friends.

Since Year 12 in high school, 3 of my close friends and I have always talked of chipping in some cash and buying a bus to take on road trips, festivals and to see Australia in. Over the years we've checked out a few buses, but we've never quite managed to get money, time and people aligned to buy it and start the project. Finally, after adding my younger brother and one of the other guys younger brothers, we managed to find the right bus for the right price. (dirt cheap)

As we all grow older and get jobs, girlfriends, travel and mature we have managed to stay a pretty tight-knit group - although some of us have wandered off to do our own thing at times.

This photo is just a rad reminder of all of us finally getting our shit together and having some great times together with this piece of shitty japanese-built machinery that ties us together (both financially and alcoholically) and that we've finally managed to get started on something we began over 6 years ago now - with many more road trips, adventures, mechanical failures and quiet (and not so quiet) beachside drinks for us and our friends together in the future.

Ok, I'll play. Back when I was the PoPo in the states I was dispatched to a traffic crash on State route 57 and State Route 254.
When I arrived on scene I found what was left of a black Honda (pictured) and a Dodge Ram 1500 truck.
The doped up drunk driver of the Honda was racing northbound on SR 57 and rear ended the Dodge Ram.
From my very bad memory the truck was pushed across a 4 lane intersection so hard that the truck also crumpled about 6 feet of guardrail.
The father and son in the truck were both transported to the hospital with neck and back injuries.
The punk-ass wanna be road racer ended up with a broken right femur, broken left ankle, multiple broken ribs / sternum, broken left arm and facial fractures.
The girl friend in the passenger seat had to be pulled out from under the dash, she had a broken left arm (compound fracture).

And me I had a mountain of paperwork.

Afterwords it was found out the driver was under a court ordered DUI suspension for several prior DUI convictions.

This was taken up in the hills(Roleystone). We've ridden on the same road several times during the night, and never had any mishaps. But everytime we've gone there during the day, something has gone wrong. First, I come off, then, the day the pic was taken, Brendon almost collided with a car coming in the opposite direction. The third and last time we went there during the day time, one of the blokes on his R6/GSXR broke his left footpeg.
