NASCAR is a very tight, technical form of racing. It can be a matter of a few inches of duct tape that can determine whether you're competitive or out of the race. Too little and you're too draggy, you'll fall out of the slipstream or not have enough power to pass when you do pull out. Too much and the engine cooks itself and you're out all together.
Aerodynamics, minor hp differences, carb tuning, tyre pressure.....even the toe-in angle has been known to make cars uncompetitive. The slightest modification can make a big difference. Its all about setup and being able to hold that setup consistent as the course changes and the car wears as well as having drivers who can perform at their peak for consistently for long periods.
NASCAR may not be 'exciting' to watch, buts its almost a science.
