From the article, the system they have at the moment is flawed. 0-30km/h 3 demerits but different dollar values depending what bracket.

All of the states are moving towards a national system. How long they'll take is another matter... But as shitty as the current system is, it WILL get worse. All of the other states are not going to lower their penalties to come into line with us... That only leaves one other possibility...

Appeal with a national system? We're one country. It should have been a national system all along rather than the hideously deformed 8 headed beast that the national licensing systems/traffic regulations currently are.

better yet...implementing something to get rid of beurocracy... oh man...that's good.

thing is they have so many double demerit weekends and periods and crap that theres heaps of people losing their license in one go.... lots of people = lots of votes.

ironically its the revenure raising efficiency of lots of cameras, along with the nanny state crap of double demerits balanced against the lack of thought or comprehensive analysis of the situation (ie how stupid policies are applied without looking at the laws in place or problems they pose)
