nice stereo gear - who's got ???
some piccies of my new system - been on a bit of upgrade spree since i became single again . Always had a love of music and nice stereo gear, I blame my folks they had marantz (i think) quadrophonic system in the mid 70's. I think i now have over 700 cd and 300 records.
I started out years ago with a cheapy system and slowly kept upgrading - at one point at the whole pre/power amps, cassette deck, turntable + photo amp, dvd player, speakers. got a bit sick of the acres of black and cables and recently went back to a more minimal system.
Only have one living room (would love a seperate listening room) so source had to be capable of playing dvds and well as CD's (and sound good too) settled on a Denon dvd3910 player. Always liked Denon (and Marantz) gear , so settled for a Denon pma2000ae int amp and finally a Sharp 42in lcd telly.

And last week just picked up Monitor Audio GS20 speaker replacing Monitor Audio RS8 speakers.

Absolutely awesome sounding speakers , nice bright highs without being brittle (usually im not keen on metal dome tweeters but MA seemed to have worked them out, awesome midrange and a nice n tight bass (no boom) which is great my awkwardly shaped (wide but shallowish) living room.

Gotta love good music for unwinding

Denon Amp, Disc Player & Tuner here... B&W 660i monitors.
Only used for music - not movies or TV.
Love the Denon gear - and my B&W's

Old NAD 302 for listening to CD's on the headphones and it powers 2 sets of speakers for outdoors and games room.
Theater has the Yamaha RXV2600 for playing music and blu-ray etc with Yammie towers and centre and subwoofer and 4 Jensens in ceiling for rear effects.
Sony STRDG720S receiver for lounge for dvd/blu-ray and ps3 and music. Shitty speakers fronts, centre and sub and jensen in ceiling for rears. Want to change these fronts as were just a cheap alternative to get some sound in the room quickly and cheaply. Wouldn't mind some tannoys in there.
In the past have had other NAD gear, old Leak valve amp,, Pioneer amps and Tannoy speakers, hand me downs from the old man started that off.
found a better list of my stuff from this thread:

Yamaha Power amp with a Kenwood pre-amp, with Kenwood speakers. They are the best Kenwood make but not up to B&W or Jensens. My neighbors love the sound.
Value for money though, GF bought a simple Yamaha 5.1 surround sound system with small but powerful speakers. for less than $600 it is great for movies.

Excellent... those speakers look awful nice, Perd.
I've got a pair of B&W 685s powered by a Cambridge Audio 640A.
I've also got a Cambridge 840C (which I love), but that lives in my room driving a Talisman head amp and AKG K701s, as I'm flatting with someone, and wouldn't really get to appreciate the CDP in the living room.

Your setup looks purdy, Perdy
You play movies and stuff through those speakers too, yeah? Does it sound ok with them both on one side of the telly?

sounds okay , im not that fussed on the movie side of things more music, unless its something really exciting usually just watch a movie throught the tellys speakers via the hdmi cable.
ideally i like a listening room and a watching room - have to wait :-)

I just bought a 7.1 Marantz sr4001 on Tuesday. Its a year or 2 old but its worth $1100 and I got it for 399.
Im still trying to work out how to rig the fucking thing up.
I have an old set of 5.1 speakers but if anyone has any spare tower speakers they dont want let me know. I dont care what brand.

You can pick up some cheap (make do) packages from jb or even ebay, that's what I did for the lounge setup for my fronts, they're dream acoustic, cheap and cheerful mainly for gaming and movies. Looking to upgrade these later for some decent speakers front and centre.

Yeah the problem is I have some 5.1 sony speakers which are ok but they are just bookshelf speakers and I dont have a book shelf.
I would love to be able to buy some tower speakers like the ones that come with those cheap packages but you always have to buy the dvd player and shit which I dont need.
I know I could go and find some stands but it would be easier to just pick up some cheap towers.
And by cheap I mean a few hundred not 700+

Get stands made up. In the past I had small Mordaunt Short surround speakers and had a guy I've used before fabricate metal stands on 3 legs with spikes and mounting brackets for the speakers, with hollow tube to run the speaker cable up. Powder coated black. Cheaper option. I can't remember his name, I'll see if I can find it.

I've Got an OLD Marantz amp running some VERY OLD Linear Design 3 ways.
That's hooked up to a Denon CD player.
Currently tossing up moving to either Cambridge Audio or Rotel gear paired up with some Acoustic Energy speakers.
Or some Elacs if Money happens to fall into my hands unexpectedly.

They have 8" woofers in them and a 5" mid.
Why have lots of little girl drivers when you can just have one big fucker.....
For a speaker that has been through as much as them (trips to rotto, Tags' Housewarming, about 5 moves) they perform admirably.

My linears had 2 big woofers and a mid and a tweeter from memory.
I want these:
Tannoy similar to the Arden, they're massive my Dad still has a pair he bought for 20 quid (over 25 years ago) from a mate that's a record producer. Had the suspension bands replaced and they reproduce with amazing clarity.

Yeah Tannoy's do that...
Going back to Spuddy's post, mate, check out Missions and Dali's.
They look like sex.
Mind you I'd kill a lot of little old grandma's for a set of Elacs...
Nom Nom Nom.

Pioneer S-HF10 speakers powered by Pioneer amp. Sub is at the doctors at the moment. PS3 to Panasonic full HD LCD.
Outdoor speakers use chinese takeaway containers for their box.
