So, how's he doing? We are getting zero coverage over here. If it wasn't for News.au I'd have no idea he was there.

Thanks for the link. Looks like the love-fest is well on. Get ready for zillions of Yanks wanting to hear you guys say Chin-wag.

Some interesting comments on a US news site.
Smart move on Australia's part. Wouldn't want to have good relations with the soon to be largest economy in world. Much better to cater to the grand delusions of world hegemony of a weezing militarist consumerist empire on the verge of collapse economically, socially, and culturally. Smart Aussies. Smart.

Just listening to his address and my 1st impression is that they're gearing up to shift the wars from the middle east to Asia. Free trade our (US) way or else suffer the consequences!

They're trying to counter China's rising influence in the region. Interestingly, this guy reckons a satellite earth station in WA is being used by China to assist them to track US warships:
China using WA satellite station to track navy | Perth Now

yeah, they're shit scared of china.
and that fear is not unreasonable nor unfounded either.

There is no offence under Australian law that criminalises the act of arriving in
Australia or the seeking of asylum without a valid visa.

lolOpposition Leader Tony Abbott described the US as the "least self-interested world power".
even if its true i dont see why it matters. satellites can communicate between themselves just as easily as to a ground station. also telemetry coming into and out of australia could be compromised by ASIS so the only info you would use a ground based hub on foreign soil for is disinformation.

Much as I like the USA and Obama, I just heard his speech and got a very bad feeling. Seems it targeted China which will really piss them off. Could it be that he's worked out that spending trillions securing oil so Americans can drive around in huge SUVs and RVs was a bad idea and to bail his country out he is planning an economic war with China, in which he will get his arse kicked even worse than Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Even worse for us we now we have his troops on our northern border rattling their sabres at our Chinese friends. I just spent a week in China drinking gallons of rice wine while negotiating some collaborative research deals. Seems I sacrificed my liver for nothing.

I love the way so many Australians love to stick the boot into the US, if war was to ever eventuate they would be the only thing between us and utter destruction.
I for one welcome our American overlords and hope like crazy that they can be an economic powerhouse for as long as I live.
I presumed that he has worked out that pulling his troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan isn't going to get him out of the shit as long as China manipulates their currency and steals US technology so he is hoping that we will support him in this venture. It will be at our great cost because we are minnows. For example, China has about 500 million tonnes of grain in storage, Australia produces 20 million tonnes, they just buy off us to be nice, they could easily go somewhere else and probably will now that Obama has shat in our nest.

We still have mineral resources and sell it to them at a decent rate pretty much hassle free. Unless they plan on invading Australia and going to war they will play nicely with us for a while yet I imagine.
A man's dog can live on nothing but anger, the taste of its own balls and smaller dogs.
That or they will invade by stealth by buying land.

When is the corrupt incompetent bold headed Blue sky envoirment wanker going to pop up with his song "USA will get the NOD" on stage, to protest agains the very plans Labour attacked the USA plans under Howard and now endorsed by the Red rooster
