To Ashmo and any other newbies.
I picked up a magazine in the newsagent yesterday called 'The complete Aussie guide to digital photography'
It seems pretty darn good for explaining how everything works, its 194 pages and goes through everything from how cameras work F-stop, aperture etc, to how to take certain shots such as lightning and sunsets and every other type you can think off, it also goes into editing and everything else to do with photography.
For 14.95 so I far I think its well worth the money.
Fuck thats awesome Hewie, what lense are you rocking? (Redfern asks knowing it probably cost more than his whole camera)

The 1st image is a 100-400 @ 400, 2nd image is a cheap dob telescope @ 1200 ... I can span to 1200 on my lenses anyway with tc's so its not a massive reach.
The last two are on the same dob telescope shot using tc's and are at a measley 4800mm.
We did push it to almost 11000mm but the shake was too much for that rig and we had to pack up.
And I couldnt find the boot prints![]()
Some say he eats sidchrome for breakfast
Some say he only showers on even days of the week
Some say he put an R1 motor in a coffee machine
All we know is he's Hewie.

There are a few tricks to shooting a good moon with just lenses. I must admit the first image is probably one of my favorites.
I might do a lunar night one night if people are interested.

This is my best effort, I didnt even have a tripod, just a 55-250.
Its not quite as good as yours. The annoying part is through the lens, you can actually see craters and stuff, but when you take the shot it comes out much smaller.

Not bad for a hand held mate.
One of the issues your having is shake .... its very very very hard to get a clear shot without a tripod.
If lunar stuff is something you want to chase get yourself a good sturdy tripod and a cable release, then we can go through it all.

Heres my best shot so far at the moon, tried alittle noob photo editing to try and bring alittle more detail out. Certainly could do alot better, ive now got a tripod which should help

Yep tripod is on the Cards. Just trying to recover, from the fiscal hit of buying the camera.

These beautiful images of waves were taken by Clark Little whom many consider the premier photographer of surf. He has dedicated his life to photographing waves and has published a selection of the best images of his career. Below he captures magical moments "inside the tube", as surfers say.
Sun - glints off wave
Sand - in surf
Tubular - shining
Beach - surf crashes down
Molten - Liquid Gold
White - tumultuous water
Splash – stunning shot
Red - mysterious shot
Break - wave crashes down
The See-Through Sea Shell
Fucking awesome!!
You talk about domination, but have you ever caress her spine with your fingertips, Bedded her for the night, or gotten lost in her beauty?
Another way you can steady your shots if you don't have a tripod.
Get a long piece of twine and a very large, heavy washer.
Tie twine to washer.
Tie other end of twine to camera, at a length so that when you look through viewfinder, there's strong tension on the twine if you step on the washer.
Voila, makeshift tripod/steadycam.
Just step on washer, point and shoot.

Awesome eh? I got them in an email today.

Ashmo: I bet you've just resized the full picture there, haven't you?
Go into any graphics program, and select a box around the moon, cut, paste into new image. It will be 3-5 times larger.
In life you only get one lap, might as well make it a good one.

your right barfridge it was resized so it could fit easier on the screen, will give it a shot and see how it turns out
On a side note for everyone check out Digital camera photo galleries, gallery database, info and forums there are some sensational photos on here along with all the tricks of the trade to helping your photographic skills.
Edit: I tried resizing it but it seems to be to alittle pixelated/fuzzy so it looks like crap
That could be because i hadnt quiet focused it right.
